speedbird Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 Im setting up on my own in blackpool,my dads had pigeons for many years & been very sucessfull but only has sprint pigeons with the odd bird doing well over the channel,as i work in london im only able to race mid to long distance. I intend to self train everytime i go down the m6 to work this way keeps them fit & suppose could call it self purpose races this way they get the some miles under there belt before entering them in a channel race. Can anyone please give me any advice on which strains to go for as there are so many advertisements out there & dont want to be ripped off & dont have that much space for unproven birds, has anyone got or tried Ebony x Aarden or any other breeds from Louella & what was the outcome. I would & probably will join a local flying club along with a national club and send when ever possible as i love the sport so much & any advive will be well apreciated however small im in the process of completeting on my house next month & loft to put in early january & cant wait to have my own birds even though its gonna be 2008 before i can enter a channel race, but intend to race yb next year many thanks for stoping to read this & thankyou for any advice you may give.
jimmy white Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 MY OPINION SPEEDY WOULD BE TO GO TO THE BEST DISTANCE FANCIER IN YOUR LOCALITY , AND TRY AND AQUIRE BIRDS FROM HIM OR HER, BUT WOULD ALSO TAKE CAREFULL NOTES OF THEIR METHODS , I KNOW YOUR VERY KEEN ON THE BIRDS [FEATHERED I MEAN ;D ;D] AND AM QUITE SURE YOU WILL SUCCEED :) AND WISH YOU ALL THE BEST
Jeremy Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 YOU WANT TO THINK WHAT DO YOU WANT TO WIN AND AT WHAT DISTANCE. SEE IF THEY TREAT ALOT BECAUSE IF THEY DO THEN YOU HAVE TO DO THE SAME. TRY AND BUY PROVEN BREEDERS OR VIRGIN STOCK THATS GENERATIONS OF THE DISTANCE RACES THAT YOU WANT TO WIN. ITS BEST TO SPEND MORE MONEY HAVE 2 PAIRS OF TOP BIRDS RATHER THINKING BUYING 5 PAIRS THE SAME PRICE AND ENDING UP WITH RUBBISH. DISTANCE BIRDS TAKE SOME FINDING BUT THEY ARE OUT THERE. ALL THE BEST JEREMY..
speedbird Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 thankyou so far for your ideas
speedbird Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 as im moving to blackpool i dont know anyone in that area & in the area where my dad is theres no one realy competes in distance raceing at national level & i dont think anyone would part with pigeons if i were competeing against them do you. Ive been going through some old copys of the homing world doing some research & looking at race results & adverts does anyone know the following Dale newcombe (Kardale lofts) W & G Flockhart J Proctor
ribble Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 try michael spencer gisburn nr clitheroe.about 40 min's from b'pool by road. he has to give up pigeons due to poor health, his family of distance pigeons have been the best 700mile birds in lancashire for some time. look at his results at this link. http://www.nationalflyingclub.co.uk/ResultsForm.asp

me Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Blackpool is a hard place I'm sure to race long distance racing pigeons to, but it could be worse a "mate" i knew kept them in Killiechronan (on Mull) and he had to stand by with his shot gun when he let them out to ward of the hawks and he could point you in the right direction if you wanted to lift a fish. Had the very best of A.R.Hills in his loft beautiful birds. Well Grizzles alwas are I suppose!
blackjack Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Try and find a fancier who flys well and that other people also do well with thier birds. Fot instance Pat King of Wantage who has bred a number of national and classic winners plus numerous club wins at the distance from all over the Uk is packing up due to pigeon lung . His birds are sons and daughters out of Pau and San Sabastian pigeons who have been in the top 10 for fanciers .He is also a damn good flyer in his own right his birds are not paper birds just damn good pigeons.
me Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 "Try and find a fancier who flys well and that other people also do well with thier birds" most sensible advice I've have ever read on this this site
me Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 anybody got contact details for p king of wantage?
sj irving jnr Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 speed bird i see there is a clearance sale in blackpool next week why dont you phone the guy up and have a crack with him,
Guest cloudview Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Hi Dave Impett flies in blackpool. top distance man, he won first section L 12th open nfc tarbes 748 miles last year which i thought was a better pigeon than chris gordon's winner considering the wind direction. He flies the Bruggemen pigeons, I know where I'd go.
