PIGEON_MAN Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Just wondering what the thinking is behind pairing up so early.
Guest jason Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 I paired up on 2nd of december, they're all down on eggs now, only because i've sold a few young'ens so I have to sort them out first, before I get my own team. jason
stevebelbin Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Thought I wouldnt see an egg till march time but I noticed this morning that a late bred that I thought was a hen (turns out its a cock!!!) has paired up to one of the hens and there now sittng LOL!!!
RoryTheRed Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 6th of jan Are you doing the 91 days before 1st race advised by Dave Allen mate ? I'm waiting for our fed and BICC race programme before i decide.

westy Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 my mate paird up abot the 7th and in 1 round he will have over 100 pigeons.
Guest Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 when i can be bothered splitting mine ill be thinking about putting them back together again!!
Ronnie Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 paired mine two days ago.Ive only got 8 pair of birds all stock ,so i need two rounds to start founding a loft. Also its my first year at breeding so i am expecting a few losse's.Still like a little kid at christmas though:)
Guest Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 good luck ronnie you will be find, was watching the streeters today, they are chasing each other all over the place./
carl Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 10th january for me,no reasons why just picked that date for the last three years and youngbirds have done very well, why change a winning system.
Wiley Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 yea it seems like spring i also was watching the streeters today the cocks are like wild fire, but strangly ive seen alot of bees today! dont normally see them this time of year! but im expecting the cold weather to hit suddenly and in a terrible way i might be wrong
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 ;Dthe reason i pair so early,is because they lay in 10-12 days time,i let sit for 10-15 days(pot eggs)chuck them out and they go down again so i wont se a y/b till about end of jan and wean at end of feb
Guest shadow Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 pair up in feb plenty time to rear y/bs, just think of all the extra mouths to feed by pairing up to early, I find most very early y/bs get lost of the loft top taken by predators.
pj1001 Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Mid February and mid March for us here. Last year we paired the sprint / middle distance birds up Valentines Day and the Channel birds 7th March, mainly due to Avian Flu but will probabally stick to similar dates this year also. PJ
barlbylofts Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 yeah shadow i found that happen to me last year, think i will pair mine latter this year prob end of jan,
blackjack Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 We pair between 20th to 30th march weather dependent it suits for july racing for the BICC,
