Guest Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Hi ive got a pair of modenas that live together, they have shown no sign of breeding, i've separated them today, how long before i should put them back together to try and encourage them to breed? Thanks
Guest ljb107 Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 I wish my pair was like yours, i've had to split them up because they are trying to breed. I don't want to breed from them because they are up for sale.
pjc Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 how old are the birds and do you know they are a pair and not two hens etc? Phil
Guest Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 hi the hens 06 i think, and the cocks 08, they are definately a pair as the hens been bred off. Cheers
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Hi i seperated the birds yesterday how long do you suggest before i put them back together?? :-/
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Leave them separated for a few weeks or until the weather warms up a bit. Just a point how old is the cock, is he a latebred?
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 no i dont think he is a latebred then again he could be as we got the pair in october
traynor Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 was he a squeeker when you got him, and are you sure he is a cock
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 no he wernt a squeeker hes def a cock maybe its the weather and they spend most of there day in the aviary
Guest joshdonlan Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Did you give them places to nest such as nest pans and straw? this usually encourages them. How long were they together for prior to splitting?
traynor Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 when it gets a bit warmer, lock them in a nestbox after they have eaten and they will be a bit more interested in each other because they wont be looking for food, just watch out that the cock isnt to aggressive with the hen because young cocks are generally quite aggressive.

How long were they together for prior to splitting? yeah theyve got nestbowl and straw, and they were together for about 6 weeks before we split them. Now the cock seems to be getting a bit intrested in calling the hen
kiateapigeons Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Pair them back up and see how they go
