i have semi-individual pens.  i lock the birds up until the lay their second egg and then let them out while rearing.

my question is:  at about what age are the babies when the pair gets ready to lay their next set.  i need to relock them up during that time to insure proper treading.  i figure it is around 20 days old.  when the babies are mostly feathered.

it can be even earlier mate, all depends on the pairs themselves ive had pairs go down before the young birds were even 15 days old, so it depends on the pairs themselves and myself personally wouldnt be able to tell you the exact day, but i defaintly know most of my pairs go down before the young birds are 20 days as i wean at 21-23 days and most of the time the parents are already on there second round of eggs

DONT THINK THERE IS A SET TIME FOR THEM LAYING THEIR NEXT ROUND WHILE FEEDING YOUNG BIRDS, THEY ALL VARY

I had one pair last year that laid quickly - checked in my loft book and the hen laid on 14th day after hatching the 1st round, 12 days after on the 2nd round and 11 days after hatching on the 3rd. Also worth pointing out they only had one yb in each nest.
