Guest Freebird Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Quoted from OLDYELLOW why not get some cutters or catolonain tumblers that out fly falcons as thats what the breeds bred for ? Never heard that before! You sure, golly at over 200miles an hour in a swoop... Don't outfly with velocity but out manouvre with lightning quick flicks and changes in direction especially at just above ground level. Have not seen this but hope to when I get my birds established. Seemingly they (Catalonians) were bred to challenge the falconers. I can tell you they are a small athletic breed and are a pure bugg*r to catch in the loft. Hopefully they still have the ability when out flying but it's early days for mine yet. Hopefully get this years youngsters (just paired) flying fit and see what they can do but obviously will take years to select etc. They are quite a rare breed to find in the U.K. and not a lot of info on the internet. Here is a link to the article that got me interested in them if you want a look. http://www.cichlidlovers.com/birds_cats_bill_hart.htm The other thing that appealed to me about them is they are said to have had a "wardrobe of a thousand costumes" in other words they came in every colour and pattern under the sun. Like numerous other claims they are said to be one of the oldest breeds as well but suffered great losses during the Franco regime with many pattern/colour types lost due to lack of feed etc. I personally would not give up your passion for flying the rollers.
