Guest shadow Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Flu like syptons ,cough and shortness of breath , you can ask your GP to do a blood test, or have it done at blackpool if you are going.
Guest CS Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 More info on Pigeon Lung website. http://www.pigeon-lung.co.uk/
Guest Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 as some of u know, i (and my wife) had suspected psitacosis(resembles pigeon lung)last season...the reason why i got rid of all my birds.i can tell u, that wot i had was nothing but hell, worry beyond belief and the thought of never being right again. chest pains /hard to breath/ flu like symptoms/muscle cramps (which was bad)and even a risk of death in older ppl,...through the risk of culminating in pneumonia.it lasted for over 6-7 weeks. also was on 8 tablets a day to combat it.with this it goes but with pigeon lung it stays...i know from only wot i had ,i wouldnt want it!!!...TAKE MY ADVICE..if u think u suspect anything..GO SEE THE DOCTOR..no matter how much u love pigeons... UR LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN A BIRD!!!....paul

Ronnie Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Ray try putting wire under the bottom of the nest box's so when the birds fly about most of the dust will get blown out.I no this is probably a dip in the ocean but it all help's.Also try flying to an aviary instead of a loft(if i had room this is what i would do),You could even use that blue nylon ground sheet around the sides for racing widowood. Also a ioniser will make the dust particles stick to gether and drop to the floor. These are all just idea's mate just trying to help.
Keepsmilingqueen Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 iv seen the effects of pigeon lung 1st hand, my dad suffered really badly and at the end was on oxygen 16hrs a day, it wasnt what killed him but it certainly restricted his quality of life in his last few years, he was a pigeon fancier for over 55yrs and never gave up, alas he only started wearing masks and a loft coat when it was too late. :'( my advice is get tested and always wear a seperate loft coat and a mask when you go in with the birds, if i ever showed symtoms the birds would have to go im afraid, nothings worth your health
Guest Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 i get pains in the chest and shortness of breadth but no flu symptoms is this it, it lasts all day once ive been in the loft ray hi ray...go see the doctor u may have asthma,or just a chest complaint , thats nothing to do with ur birds....make sure u have plenty of ventilation in ur loft....paul

Best Wishes.
