paul l Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 what ar metal sheds like as a loft can it be done
PIGEON_MAN Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I Would think that they would be very cold in winter and very hot in summer,so they would have to be lined out with some sort of material to combat this, there used to be a old fancier who lived near me when i was young who had a metal loft made out of corrugated sheets,he was a very good flyer, but i never got to see inside the loft so i cant say what it was like.
Guest Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 having a metal lofts ok but as pigeonman stated it would have to be lined with summut, wot u will get is bad condensation with it.resulting in dampness on anything inside the loft...which might lead to respitory conditions on ur birds. look around ur local papers for plywood and have a dry warm loft..leave the metal sheds/lofts where they are .....paul
pigeonscout Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Paul pick yourself up a garden shed door in middle at front so you can have section to left and right of door + you will have a 2ft6 corridor from door to back of loft that will give you room for corn bin.

jimmy white Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 having a metal lofts ok but as pigeonman stated it would have to be lined with summut, wot u will get is bad condensation with it.resulting in dampness on anything inside the loft...which might lead to respitory conditions on ur birds. look around ur local papers for plywood and have a dry warm loft..leave the metal sheds/lofts where they are .....paul ys this is true as i had a metal loft [a converted coal house], and the condensation would actualy drip from the ceiling, solved this by having louvre doors,, and vents on back and sides ,,,but wouldnt advise a metal loft
Beanz Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 One of the fanciers around here had his loft burned down and so he bought a metal container to use as a loft so it could not be burned again, he lined it with wood and he has raced to it with success in 2006 including topping the federation.
Guest coxy Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 i had the wood as a base the insultaed and then the metal sheeting closed in of course and then the vernts and windows ect ect
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I have several metal buildings and they work fine I use what is called a loafing shed it is about 10 x 8 x 40 and the whole front is wired so it has lots of ventilation it has a dirt floor another I have is 10 x 8 and attached to a 16 x 9 x 30 flypen and houses my prisoner hens they stay out in the flypen most of the time by choice only going in at night to roost I am preparing to build another of these to house my prisoner cocks
