tiler Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hi guys All you that keep feather legged / footed breeds how do you avoid feather damage when birds are on floor and pirched is there a trick to it so they aint breaking bending against walls and mesh ?? Tiler
pjc Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 I take it you are refering to feathered fancy breeds! If your birds are breaking foot feathers on wire or the loft wall etc then you need to keep them quieter, they must be wild! if your birds are calm they should just sit on there perches which will illiminate damage, also give them poles to perch on.

kirky Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 as said above poles need to be used for perching.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Explain poles for me guys please Basically wooden battens mate attached at either side of loft staggered if u get me
pjc Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 make sure the battens are big enough otherwise you can get dents in the keels when the birds roost on them.

Hamster Girl Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 The judge at our county fair always suggests using deep wood shavings on the floor, and "wide" perches, so their feet aren't clenched so tightly that the deathers are damaged.
