there is this special tape that you warm on the edge with an iron,it seal permantly,you clean the extra witdh and finish the job with a piece of fine sandpaper(120).For the surfaces I prefare them not being covered,you know bare wood breaths.If the chipboard is new do not put it right away in the loft,it gives off fumes and it is not good for the rasperatory system.Hope this helps

NEVER LIKED OR USED CHIPBOARD IN THE LOFTS BECAUSE IT IS JUST CHEAP sh** ALL GLUED TOGETHER

Thanks guys for the advice. Loft is emulsioned but wasn't sure if it would work as well on chipboard or just soak in.

Like the idea of the iron on trim for the sawn edges.

Tammy, theres nothing wrong with chipboard. Yes its cheaper than plywood and other materials, but at the end of the day the boxes serve the purpose just as well as expensive ones.

if you want to seal the chipboard go to your local garden centre and get the white paint that they use for painting lines on grass it dries very quickly and lets off no fumes and its very cheap to buy
