Guest Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 A good video Ace, nice to see other ways of doing it. Back toe really popped out a treat, does anyone use the toothpick trick? Those toes and claws in the video are pretty short-looking compared to my lot, and the back toe is the bit I get the main bother. When he put that toothpick under that toe, thought: he's going to pull that toe out from the joint!
Guest jason Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 im that bog eyed and pissed most ov the time the ring usually ends up on over there heads lol I'm having that trouble myself, today found 2 youngsters at back of drinker shelf must be 16 days old, didn't know they were there. so missed ringing them, I'll just keep them for stock. Jason

jimmy white Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 i prefer to pick the the back toe from the ring with my index finger and thumb, ive found if using a match or tooth pick ,youhave to be very carefull,of damaging the dew claw,if its picked out sideways its ok, but if just picked out with tooth pick , sometimes it can be damaged,as the dew claw curls round the edge of the ring

Guest Vic Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Without taking the ybs out of the nest, just by "sizing" them with my hand, tells me they are ripe for ringing, but Iv'e been doing it for over 50 years. I also use the writing end of the biro which is obviously at hand (to record the ring numbers) to hook the back claw out. But mainly use (like Jimmy White) my thumb and fore finger. As I always say there is only one right way to do anything, and it only becomes difficult when you dont do it right. Vic.
Guest CS Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 we ring mine between 5 and 7 days put the 3 front toes through the ring and hold the back toe backwards and push the ring on as far as you can then pull the back toe through,
