Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Mum sold a few Kings last year to a man who has Modenas as he wanted to get a bigger Pigeon with crossing them
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Modenas are still popular on the show scene, they even have their own club.A guy called Tom Crane writes about them reguarly in Feathered World magazine.
chickadee Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 My friend, you did not hear wrong. Evil birds. ;D Why would anyone want to keep aggressive birds? Are they that bad?
Hamster Girl Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Why would anyone want to keep aggressive birds? Are they that bad? They are mighty pretty, especially when they are Grizzle, Gazzi(?) and Splashed.. Especially Opal ones.. Brilliant for show if you can manage to handle them. I just don't have an affinity for birds that will whack you with their wing-joints. Not anything I willingly enjoy, especially after having suffered it from multiple geese over the years. For something so small, all the modenas I have "met" are all so... bleh. I think it's the general disposition though. And even though they are mean (I know I contradict myself here), they can tend to be fun to try and hold, and to watch.

Can't you get them as tame as to not wing flick you all the time?
Hamster Girl Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I'm sure, if the effort was put into them that you could. I personally do not own any and so cannot run this as a test - but that is something I wouldn't doubt. Most creatures respond well to constant positive actions, so it would stand to reason that a modena(evil) would become kind enough to settle nicely with a human(nice) who was taming it.
chickadee Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 It would be interesting to know, if anyone has modenas, I take it modenas don't get along with other types of birds if they are known to be aggressive.
Hamster Girl Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 The man whom I bought my four new birds off of had multiple breeds, some Magpies, Brunners, Parlor Rollers, Mookee, Domestic Flight, Fantail, Owls, Homers, Runts etc. and Modenas. Most were all mixed together in his large aviary - but it was divided in two, one half for his Fantails and (mostly) Brunners, and the male Magpie and the other half for everything else.
Steve0 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 You've missed the Question i'm wondering if anyone as old type modenas they were much smaller and less aggresive than the birds today. Steve0...

Steve0... Sorry steve0, when someone we know asked the very same question a wee while ago, we tried to source some for him but at the time we couldn't find anyone that had them either. ??) I wish you good luck in your search. ;D

Glassfeather Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Perhaps you are thinking of the German Modena? They are much smaller pigeons. Also I think the French Modenas are altogether more refined than the ones here in the UK. These are some sites that may interest you: http://www.magnani-tauben.de/ http://www.modeneser.de/ http://www.johnsdilutemodenas.co.uk/ This is a German Modena:
THE FIFER Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Why would anyone want to keep aggressive birds? Are they that bad? once a non fancier brought me round 2 modenas he got in his garden, i put them in the loft and my racers went daft, so i had to take them out, took them to the local siverburn park and they kept them,
