I READ SOMEWHERE ON PIGEONBASICS THAT ITS NOT ADVISABLE TO GIVE YOUR PIGEONS POWDERED BABIES MILK AS THEY HAVE PROBLEMS DIGESTING IT BUT IVE ALSO READ THAT SOME FANCIERS HAVE HAD THEIR BEST SEASON EVER AFTER USING IT?  WHAT DO YOU THINK AND DO YOU GIVE IT VIA THEIR WATER OR ADDED TO THEIR CORN OR WOULDNT YOU USE IT AT ALL?   KEV   ::)

Guest User I can remember reading in one of the topics, about uising baby milk powder, while the birds are rearing, so Ive got some to try out. At the moment im mixing 2 small scoops in to the water, does anyone know if this is too much or not enough etc.

Guest User Cheers Jimmy, its definately making them grow faster, I had to put the rings on at 5 days old and even then struggled a bit. My first 2 Van-Whites hatched out last night, so ive floated them under a pair in the race loft.

Wondered how and when you first cottoned-on to Baby powder?

What was 'the bit' that attracted you to use it?

It must be good stuff if fed at the right time. I can also remember Fred Parkinson of Ushaw Moor giving his birds Goats Milk in the drinker. Don't ask me what kind of goat as it was over 40 years ago. I definately know it was not called Billy.

Guest User I don't use it in the breeding loft at all Carol, as you said too much waste as I change the drinkers at least twice a day, I buy the cheapest I can find at Safeway and put three scoops to a gallon of water.

I think it is fair to remind people that SMA etc formulae are regarded as second best to the real thing, (which medicos are trying to bring back) and even the folk who make SMA have this on their website:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE: Breast feeding is best for babies. Infant milks are intended to replace breast milk when mothers do not breast feed. Good maternal nutrition is important for the preparation and maintenance of breast feeding. Introducing partial bottle feeding may have a negative effect on breast feeding and reversing a decision not to breast feed is difficult. Professional advice should be followed on infant feeding. Infant milk should always be prepared and used as directed. Unnecessary or improper use of infant milk may present a health hazard. Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding. "

In my opinion, hasn't a patch on mother's milk, or in our case can't compare with the natural stuff : pigeon milk from both cock & hen.

was told when i was a boy that a certain peel made from amongst other things "sister laura's" baby food was good for the doos, and would you believe it, it was.
