Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Chatrace could you please tell us where you got this theory! out the bottom of a bottle , eh bill ;D
Guest Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I'm not convinced. :-/ Sex is determined by genetics, Z & W chromosomes, not directions or poles. Any turning that I have heard of I have understood to be along the egg axis, and was for aeriation rather than sex determination. On reading the shell, know that fanciers of old always examined inside of a newly hatched's shell, for 'clean hatch'. (Don't ask me what a clean hatch is). Look forward to publication tho, should be interesting.
Chatrace Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 The guy working on the studies at WMU flys with us and is also A Vet. He has his own office off campus that specializes in Avian sub types. Dr Ivan Gottchua has over 30 years as a Vet. He can look at a bird and tell you if it is ready or should you let it rest another week. He has checked my dropping several time for free. I will take in some again in a month or so and he might even want some bloodwork done to check for sugar.
DOVEScot Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Does the colour change in fertile eggs, I was visiting a loft and the owner lifted his birds and took out eggs from some nests, saying these are changing colour so they are fertile and right enough when he broke them they were fertile?????
Chatrace Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 They seem to change color more around Easter than any other time of the year.

We should have hired you as the comedian for lasts nights show Bill, i;m laughingmore the noo than i was last night, nobody or nothing will have me believe the sex of birds can be determined by the way the egg faces, Bruno is spot on when he says it is genetics that determine the sex of anything, would your theory work the same way for a human foetus, if it is upside down will it be a boy or a girl, just checking the date to see if is the first of april
Chatrace Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Tammy, what ever you do don't let them stand on end. I won't even go in to that at this time, but if you do make the small pointed end look up for saftey ;D

Guest Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Does the colour change in fertile eggs, I was visiting a loft and the owner lifted his birds and took out eggs from some nests, saying these are changing colour so they are fertile and right enough when he broke them they were fertile????? That is the way you know they are fertile, not so much colour, but the developing embryo stops the light [sun or torch] going thro the egg, making it appear 'darker' when you hold it up to the light.

Aye I would go with that theoory, but he knew the difference when the were in the nest
