sapper756 Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 I like letting them out early because up here you get the sky to yourself, b4 the other fanciers start letting their birds out.
Guest CS Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Like letting them out early in the morning.
Guest CS Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 on their own or with old birds ? On their own...
Guest Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 i prefer to let them out at nite time for the first couple of months only ,once i start to train them and they are coming from 40 mile i then change it to letting them out at 5 in the morning as in the past i did it and with clear blue skies and untrained youngsters i think they range to far and meet up with hawks elsewhere
Guest Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Before the YBs are on the wing, they go out after the OBs, just after the OBs come back from their morning fly. Basically keeps the YBs grounded just long enough for them to see round the place before they start to take off on 'solo spins'. When YBs are all strong on the wing, they are then first to go out (on their own) around 0600, I wait 15 minutes to make sure that they are away (touring) then I let the OBs out. Once touring, YBs will be gone for around an hour and this is their routine till around two weeks before 1st race, when they'll start training at around 20 miles.
Guest Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Open Hole for me with the youngens till just before racing and training starts and then split and exercised twice a day!
ticeye Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 i find that if i put my young birds that are not strong on the wing out early in the morning they are sitting ducks for the sparrowhawk that is out hunting for its first meal of the day to feed its own chicks so i let them out around 10am
THE FIFER Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 real early is good for youngsters they fly well the only thing is thats when Mr hawk is hungry.
ACE LOFTS Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 when they come off dark we star letting them out twice a day but for now only the ones
Guest CS Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 on their own or with old birds ? Youngbirds after the Old Birds come back from their morning fly...
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 I give open hole and let them out whenever they want I think they learn a lot from the oldbirds usally without fail some dum dum will get out and not remember how to get back in so I just toss out a few old birds and they will follow them
Guest Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 twice aday for us, (time permitting) My granddad always says the Air is cleaner and fresher in the morning, hence why they tend to fly better. what you think? I can see what he means a new morning hasnt been as much pollution going into the sky during the night, etc etc
westy Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 when ever the weather is rigth and not too windy
carl Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 twice a day morning and evening,if they get lost in the morning they have all day to return,,,i must say i hate settling ybs,,,stressed to the max today, lost 3 ybs today hopefully waiting for me in the morning
wee_peg Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 when they are still quite small and not starting tossing i like to let them out later on after lunch time 4/5ish but when they are older being tossed they get out in the morning before a toss, then get tossed as soon as they come in. ;D THAT'LL SORT THE BEST FROM THE REST ;D
crazy pigeon boy Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 i think twice a day untill they are flying well and gone for up to 1 hour then cut down to once a day
barlbylofts Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 mid day mine come out now as the hawks not hunting at that time i find early in the morning the hawks take the ybs and latter in the day the same mid day seems to be the safer time
Guest Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Meant to mention mine are already quite strong on the wing, and around 7/8 weeks old, before they 1st go outside. Think nowadays YBs need to be able to get themselves out of trouble from their very 1st day out.
