tommy.walsh Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 can any one tell me what to breed my yellow hen with to get yellow young birds
Guest cloudview Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 hi , this was written by cousin jack the bhw scribe . pair yellow hen to red or mealy cock. thecocks from this pairing will carry a recessive gene for yellow then pair back todam or red hen and keep your fingers crossed . beatyhomer on this site is your man
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 id go with a red mealy or silver had yellows this year from a mealy carrying yellow with a black wf hen
pjc Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 A yellow hen is ressesive and to breed yellows the cock would need to be resessive, i.e a yellow or silver or carry the resessive gene. If you don't have any suitable cocks do as Oldyellow say's pair to a red and then pair a son back to the yellow hen and you will produce a percentage of yellows.
Guest Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 If she is ash-yellow pair to red chequer or red bar, the sons from this mating will all carry the dilute gene. One of these young cocks will breed approximately 25% yellow daughters if mated to red cheq hen; if one of the young cocks is mated back to his dilute mother 50% of the young will be dilute of both sexes. If the original cock is carrying blue and bar then the results will be different as a percentage of dilute blue bars, dilute blue chequers and red bars will also be produced.
Blue Chequer Pied Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Is it not easier to pair it to another yellow or am I missing something :-/
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Is it not easier to pair it to another yellow or am I missing something :-/ it is easier to pair yellow to yellow but more often or not get gaypied yelows , also this pairing can create defects such as albinos there blind or small eyes with poor eyesight
tommy.walsh Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 my yllow hen is paired to a white do you think i should just leave them and hope for the best
Blue Chequer Pied Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 it is easier to pair yellow to yellow but more often or not get gaypied yelows , also this pairing can create defects such as albinos there blind or small eyes with poor eyesight But they would be yellow .... job done ;D
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 my yllow hen is paired to a white do you think i should just leave them and hope for the best i would say you would get more whites , but that depends on what dilute it's derived from as white isnt a colour its more of a lack of pigmentation been present
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 if pairing a yellow to a red the colour of the yellows are more darker and look better imo
tommy.walsh Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 i only have 1 older red in my loft but he is a dark red
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 i only have 1 older red in my loft but he is a dark red id go with that one then you'l stilll get a percentage that will be red but you might hit lucky and breed yellows
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 mealy x dark wf hen bred these the mealy was carrying yellow :
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 typical colour bred by two yellows :
owen101 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 nice birds oldyellow and thats a cracking cheque bird you have there
Guest Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 my yllow hen is paired to a white do you think i should just leave them and hope for the best The white is masking colour and pattern and possibly pied; so your "white" cock could be a blue bar pied, but he could be a red chequer self........or any combination in between.....if you don't know how he is bred, he could even be a dilute!! But not the best choice for the yellow hen, better to use a red cheq.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 nice birds oldyellow and thats a cracking cheque bird you have there hes a Van Braune thanks
owen101 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 hes a credit to you and sory for going off topic
Guest grizzler Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 i would go with old yllows advice and pair to the red,if you paired the yellow to the white, you could get anything as the white is either ashred, blue or brown
Guest beautyhomer Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 hi , this was written by cousin jack the bhw scribe . pair yellow hen to red or mealy cock. thecocks from this pairing will carry a recessive gene for yellow then pair back todam or red hen and keep your fingers crossed . beatyhomer on this site is your man correct :) However the recessive gene you are trying to reproduce is dilute not yellow.Reds and yellows both have the same colour gene(ash red).If you add dilute to a red you get yellow, there is no actual gene for yellow.
