Rick quite often the first race some of my yearlings get is nearly 200 miles over the channel in may, more than often this is their first race of their lives as I don't race my channel youngsters. The training they get is regularly from the coast about 40 miles then in. They don't know whether it is 2 miles or 200 miles just make sure they are fit when you send them.

i wouldnt hesitate in sending yearlings to their first race being 200 miles,,,,providing it was in the month of may and the forecast was good, and the air being warm, but wouldnt even think about it at this time of year ,, a lot of yearlings are lost in early april in just training flights :)
