westy Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 hi my name is martin (westy) has anybody got any advice on keeping them in tip top condition and not lazy birds.
westy Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 and my website that i just not long made is www.freewebs.com/homingpigeonsbirmingham thanks
Guest Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 yea if they land on your house or loft roof just quickley through a ball up or give em a quick squirt with hose pipe but if when they go to land in the first place after they have flown just make a really loud sound(clapping , airhorn , a loud whistle or bang on something) this will keep them flying for longer .might sound silly but always works for me that way there fit and wont be lazy in a race hope this helps and all the best paul carter
GREENGRASS Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 hi westy make sure you are not overfeeding them as this will take the urge to fly away from them. only feed after they have flown and trapped well. this way after they excercise they wont sit out on the rooftops.
westy Posted August 20, 2005 Author Report Posted August 20, 2005 thanks carter for that good idear cheeres i only feed them a small amount and that is when they come in from flying out on the evening..
snowy Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 yes westy son, listen to dad & dnt feed them when hes not home by hand(lol) see you later.
Guest Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 westy the main fator to focus on is do not overfeed keep to a strict programme because if you do overfeed it will take you for ever to trap them and stick to the tips i gave you this is guaranteed to work my young birds used to try and be lazy but becase of the tips i mentioned in a previous message they fly for a long long time now and if you have time put them on the darkness system this is guaranteed to keep them in tip top condition for your races and makes them perform better all the best paul carter
speedbird Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 dont know how long you have had the birds but racing is an all year round this even in the winter need to whatch there feed & weight as when the spring comes nothing worse than over weight birds then you realty have to work em to get weight off & if they dont fly round loft get them in the basket spring onwards
