I guess it's happened to a lot of you before........I need a bigger loft!!

I'm buying a shed and converting it as it seems to be a much cheaper option.  The firm will deliver and erect but I (with a little  help ;D)  have to prepare where it's going to stand. I put my 4x6' onto flags but, I've noticed since that pigeon lofts are higher off the ground........what is the minimum height it needs to be?

It will be 12'x6' and the firm will put a divider and door in for me - should I have 6' each side for breeders and young birds or divide in a different way - the cocks and hens will have a side each at the end of the breeding.

Thanks.

On height off ground, I think it really depends what you are comfortable with. All you are trying to do is have air circulating under there AND make sure that nothing nasty is hiding or nesting there unseen. 6" to 12" seems adequate.

On dividing up the new loft: depends on number and size of nest boxes. 'Other-half' could measure this out. Boxes would be neater and easier to build if everything was mde-to-measure!  ;D

Bruno's advice sounds good. Tell ya what though when you're finnished you stand back feel pleased then find what you wish you had done. If I were building now, top of the list of priorities would be stall traps and a way to put my baskett on the outside so I could drive young birds in rather than catch them.
