YB feeding

Hi my YB's are doing well and have had quite a few training tosses now as I am getting them away at least once a day and twice if I can. They are coming well and fast and have nice sleek feathers and white wattles. They are hopper fed on gerry plus as much as they can eat, plus hormoform twice a week with redband as a trapping titbit. They have pickstones and grit (oooh timbarra will get me lol) available at all times and also get gemphanax, garlic cider vin and vits.

Come back from a toss last night and my dad helped me to seperate them and he was surprised as he thought they were a bit light not going light but not as heavy as they should feel for the way they are coming. He said I was training the fat off them and they should have a slight reserve for hard days so he said I need to get some weight on them?

Any suggestions how to do this with out comprising performance????

Is gerry plus a bit too light for YB's should I get them some higher portein corn and gave them gerry plus on the morning and standard high protein on the night?

Any suggestions?

Its not disease as I have a treatment programme in place for regular worming, cocci and canker and lice plus the way the birds are coming they must be in good condition but I'm just a tad worried I'm not giving them enough fuel or the right types of fuel to do the job.

Hi Paolo,

have pm'd you. I feed the grit and pickstones too, but take it out a couple of days before basketing! Also, some grits / minerals have an adverse effect on some medications so when treating, remove them then also!

My pigeons are like spartans at the minute if they could talk they would be saying

"this is what we were trained to do, born to do bred to win hooahhhhhhh.''

They are loving it

i feed a high protein nothing expensive,,,ur birds could be flying off their weight...try adding a little maize,or adding a little extra at night....where the night time without exercise will add weight to them....paul

I would add some widowhood corn to their diet, later in the week once racing, like u would a widowhood cock. Even add some peanuts to their diet as the races get longer. Seen this on a american darkness system video and the bloke had 26 birds land together from 200+ miles.

Only problem u will find is once u add more protein to their diet, the sooner they will drop to bits!!

But if you think about logically (not saying your not) the more they exercise the lighter they will be, and yours are excercising well, so wont hold much weight. I think they are better off lighter, than too heavy anyway, as fat pigeons wont win any races.
