Bilco Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 AVIAN INFLUENZA IN FRANCE. ALL DISTANCE RACES CANCELLED. Because of Avian Influenza cases found in France, the middle and long distance pigeon races, which are held in France, will be cancelled. Pigeons are on the way to Barcelona, Sint-Vincent and Tarbes ( race in The Netherlands ). The pigeons in Barcelona have more chance to be liberated than the ones on the way to St-Vincent and Tarbes as Barcelona is in Spain and not in France. Over to RPRA, WHO SAY THAT THE MEASURES IMPLEMENTED BY FRANCE ARE POSSIBLY TEMPORARY. The French authorities are taking stock of how the present infection was brought in and may yet permit races to continue after a few days have passed. Racing from the Cherbourg peninsula (Picauville, St Malo etc) was previously cancelled because German transporters had been in the region the previous week. Cheers, _________________
Guest Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Dear All H5N1 has been confirmed in NE France in a group of swans. The French Government has, as a precautionary measure, banned all racing pigeon liberations until further notice. Organisations that are en route or already in situ must abort their liberations planned in France and return to the UK. A further update will be given when anymore information/advice is available. Regards Peter Bryant
jimmy white Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 yes i agree ,, but who knows , things can change fast "untill further notice???" hope so anyway
johnny11 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Vic the North west Combine just due to dock in France will be turned away immediately, not DEFRA this time but French Authorities. Looks like it will be a coast race....Gutted
Guest bristolkev Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 PARIS (Reuters) - Tests have confirmed that three swans found dead in eastern France were killed by the H5N1 bird flu virus, the French agriculture ministry said on Thursday, France's first cases of the disease in over a year. "Michel Barnier, minister of agriculture and fishing, is putting in place the risk prevention measures corresponding to the shift from the 'moderate' level to the 'high' level," the ministry said in a statement. The "high" level means that in mainland France birds and poultry will have to be either locked up or protected by nets to avoid all contact with wild birds, a ministry official said. The gathering of birds and pigeon contests will be forbidden. Germany said on Thursday it was raising its assessment of the risk of bird flu following the French announcement and after officials this week discovered more birds that had died of the H5N1 virus, this time in the eastern state of Thuringia. In 98 "humid zones" in France, or around 15 percent of the country, there will be special veterinary checks at poultry farms. French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot said on French television that the country was not threatened by a flu pandemic at this stage but that the government would be remain on alert.

Looks like it will be a coast race....Gutted John, I always get two clocks set for the last one, that's how much it means to me. I am totally devastated with the latest happenings. I have just been talking to Brian Maguire, and also John Worrall fom Widnes, regarding where this NWC race should be from. It will be up to the delegates to decide. I personally think that it should be fom Penzance or Hastings, just to make it a little more interesting, seeing that we have lost the jewel of the season. I hope your delegates will think on the same lines. They will have plenty of time to go east or west. I'm afraid this will be the SWAN song for channel racing as we know it. :(
GUTTY HEN Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 The snfc pigeons due to go to tours for a race on friday has been cancelled. There will be a meeting this week to see what the plan will be for the last snfc race for old birds from france which is due in two weeks time.First we would like to go to france if we cant then next could be belgium if we cant go into europe then we will be looking at race inland from say maidstone or hastings but this will all be talked about by the snfc officials at the meeting. All snfc members will be sent out a newsletter to update you all of the outcome of the meeting. It is hoped that we will have a snfc race on friday or saturday 20/21 july as per your snfc book. Lets all hope things get better by then.
expat1 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 The Barcelona Pigeons are now at Barcelona, It is expected they will be Liberated tomorrow morning weather permitting, The Belgian Pigeons at St Vincent is not known but i too expect them to go up tomorrow as planned but it is not yet guaranteed regards other French Races for the Belgian Fanciers this week or in the near future is not known yet a lot basket tonight
johnny11 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Vic cant see it being up to the delegates, it will be up to the emergency commitee, to decide. Can see the Amal voting for those places as it will benefit them. At these meetings they always do what benefits them the most rather than the combine. The Amal at the last meeting said the following" We will support the inland programme if it is Portsmouth, if its not Portsmouth we will not support it" Anyhow we agreed as the North Wirral will race anywhere, the amal must have thought they had an advantage from there and The North Wirral topped it both races 11,000 pigeons both times. Good luck Vic wherever it will be, will phone the sec in a short while and let you know John
Guest Vic Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 John, There aint many Liverpool fanciers left in the Amal these days as you know. 90% being Knowsleyites, who think they're the bees knees. Not satisfied with their favourable position, one or two of 'em will be using the ets this yb racing season. Much wants more! I hear the war drums pounding in the distance, re the breeder buyer races, because of the (too wise, or just plain greedy) men fom the east.
swilcox Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Ive told our combine sect to let there birds at Marmande go now before ayone tells them different, they were due to go tomorrow!!! Steve (expat1) I dont reckon they will let those St Vincent birds go, they will be told before the end of the day to return to Belguim!! Best let them i up i say. Stuart
johnny11 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Vic It makes you laugh mate. the birds stopping at Portsmouth overnight and then getting driven to Kingsdown to be libbed. Why???? Could it be no Liverpool member topped the combine from Portsmouth???? John

johnny11 Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Vic Not too sure...... Probably North Liverpool. Cannot believe the decision. These birds have been prepared for a testing 500 mile race and they will be going 180 mile. Cannot believe it. at least Portsmouth is 200 mile. I know the decision not to be able to lib in France is not their fault but you could turn it into a race where they have to think about it and not just a straight line from Liverpool. The North Wirral members will not be happy at this and this will fuel the fire to pull out of the combine because it is dictated by the Liverpool members. 180 mile my *expletive removed*... Not happy John
Mike Lycett Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 We fly 2 mile difference from Portland (Kingsdown). It's certainly not Kent

Stuart Don't like these restrictions any more than next fancier, but I do believe you must stick to them, otherwise you face substantial fine, and maybe queer the pitch for the rest of us. If in doubt, ask. If the birds were in France before the 'ban' was announced, seems good chance permission to liberate and the quickest way out is on the wing.
stevebelbin Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 UNC due to got to Claremont today, and have been redirected to Brussels!!!!!!!!!!!
