Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Just had a bird back today from snfc maidstone race been hawked but he will get another chance he is a good pigeon
Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 With all due respect to guys , whose pigeons have beeen "hawked"! Not many birds of prey leave their victim still alive, unless diturbed during the take. If you consider that Percy is the deadliest predator, for most "kills" en flight, in comparrison with the sparrow hawk who normally takes "sitting" ducks" so to speak. I think you are giving these predatory birds, the old Shark tag. It seems that if a racing bird comes home with a cut or some main flights missing, it's been HAWKED. Obstacles ie. wires, trees, guns etc are responsible for most of our birds injuries. Vic.
jimmy white Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 pigeons never cease to amaze you who knows ,could turn out a champ, worth a try ,anyway

Vic. i would say most of them are a victim of a hawk attack,,,,it may kill one ,but the rest of the batch will just scatter, into trees ,wires ,roads anyplace i,e most of the injuries ,, [ive had it happen to myself ,one killed,, the rest,, broken legs, flights ripped with wires etc etc a mess] especialy when attacked by the perigrine

stevebelbin Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Id be worried that it may have paratyphoid after being in the wild so long, and may be a carrier :-/
thunderboult Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 i lost a cock in the yb nat. 2004 after flying the program he returned half way through the old bird season 2005(i'm sure somebody had him in trying to keep him) and when he had a chance he came home in good condition i gave him a mate straight away to forget where he'd been and a couple of weeks later i gave him a short race , he came ok so i put him away until 2006, he turned out to be 1 of my better racers and is still here plus he's flown the channel 6 times in the last 2 years scoring in most of them
Guest Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 the bird was in good condition when it came home apart for the feathers they were well frayed ,treated her with a 3 in 1 kept her away from the rest of the birds for 7 days now she,s out flying back to normal , now comes the question do you give her a chance or in the bin So after reading what we all think what are you going to do with her? ...amanda
