Wiley Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 how far isit to you ben? Are you preparing your birds right for the race if its a distance race?
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 only 65 miles i know a few others that have a bad race from there aswell
Guest Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Ben, It's Percy country every way the bird turns. Immediately south is the coastline a percy's stroll away, then between Exeter to Tiverton once through the M5 you hit them in abundance. Now I don't know why it should be any different say than from Littlehampton, because the birds will still have to go over percy territory to get to you. I can only think they are sitting targets when they get liberated they are completely disorientated and depending on the time of year there will be juviniles as well learning to kill! I remember going last year to a 'wild life' park at Escott which can be no more than 5 / 10 miles from Kingsdown, at this park they have hawk displays (and Eagle owls, fantastic owls immense size!!), I was chatting later with the hawk handler and he was saying what a fantastic spot it was to watch the young percy's learning to fly they would lift up on the thermals over the coast cliffs, he told me the sky was full of them mid summer 'a fantastic sight'. Below is a link to the map which shows where Escott is, does anyone have the co ordinates for kingsdown or postcode, or directions from the RPRA how to get there? http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=50.77168,-3.30112|14|4&loc=GB:50.77168:-3.30112:14|escott|Escot%20Park,%20Talaton,%20EX11%201
Pompey Mick Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 The Solent Fed only started to use this racepoint last season, we've had 4 races and I have dropped one. We have three YB races scheduled this year so I will let you know how we get on. It's 93 miles to me in Portsmouth.
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 i know of one fed libed there and they got let go and flew into the houses there
Guest Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Not sure Rose how close it is to Honiton /Sidmouth, I'll make enquiries. The difference perhaps flying east is your flying away from the hawks?? Just speculating, your guess is as good as mine but there is a big hawk problem. I think it's horses for courses some swear they'll never fly Sennen Cove again where as others say they've never had a problem.
Mike Lycett Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Kingsdown would be one of the best & most popular racepoints into thE midlands Can't think of a single pigeon we've lost there
Guest Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Hi Ben we've had a few races from there up to Worcester and my birds always come back thick and fast ive never dropped one there eaither, All the best Ben
blackjack Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Ben its a funny racepoint if your flying back down the dogleg as you know i flew NR out of Kernow . The flyers flying east and north do not have the same problems there and flying into the Cotswolds its not to badfrom there the midlands lot get hit here much more if they only knew it . Until people try flying down the dogleg they to be honest havent a clue how hard it is ive met people who where moving west to show the Devon and Cornwall boys how to do it they have nearly all come back with thier tail between thier legs. I hope the combine and the WECA give it a miss its a racepoint for east and north not west.
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 yes me and a few other got it off the race programme ;D
Guest Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 The WECA are at Kingsdown for the first two YB races!!! Spot on Black Jack with your comments, I'm a 'cummer in' myself and I know of several who as you say were top fliers in other parts of the country but got wiped out with the birds that were dominating where they came from. Having said that the top fanciers who have been wiped as above, adapted and got birds that can 'cope' with the area and they are at the top again. Jimmy Anderson of South Molton is a prime example.
