Guest coxy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 when they are eating on there own and feathering up under the wing is when i move them personally!! i knw alot of fanicer that use the same method
Guest MBpigeonguy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 here is what the wing looks like form the bottom
Guest coxy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 give them a few more days in my opinion make sure they are eating and drinking themselve and then move them
Guest MBpigeonguy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 ok i will, a few days ago i found them on the floor of the loft so i put them back up in the box and today i put them back on the floor so i will keep my eyes on them, i hope they are ok
Guest Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 ok i will, a few days ago i found them on the floor of the loft so i put them back up in the box and today i put them back on the floor so i will keep my eyes on them, i hope they are ok leave them on the floor, they will learn more there then in their nest box. as said ...leave them with the parents till they are feathered under the wings and eating well on their own
geronimo Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 watch they don't get scalped if they are left on the floor though - that's if u have other old birds in the section.
Guest Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 here is what the wing looks like form the bottom Hi, the area that the hand is covering is the area that people talk about 'feathering up under the wing'. Its usually the last place to feather and once feathered it is usual to shift the youngster - as long as you know it is eating for itself too. The fact that the bird has already left the box is also a sign that it it is ready, don't advise leaving it on the floor - as post says danger of it being attacked by any older pigeon and scalped.
westy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 i wait ontill they leave the nestbox on there own
kev01293 Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 hi mb i agree with geronimo and bruno and definitely wouldnt leave a squeaker on the loft floor because it could be attacked by the other pigeons (i had a squeaker badly injured by a angry cock bird) i know it can be hard to keep them in their nestboxes when they start wandering but all you can do is keep your eye on them and try and make sure they dont leave their nestboxes until they are ready i personally would give them another 3-5 days before letting them roam about the loft its easy for them to jump out of the nestbox but they then find that they cant fly back up to it and if they stray into another nestbox thats when they are at risk of being attacked all the best kev
jimmy white Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 if you put galley pots of feeding in the nest boxes, since the hatching of the young , ybs will eat far quicker ,, sooner you seperate them, then, the better ,, or they will be scalped by older birds
doo.racer Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 When the feathers cover the flesh under the wing
