leave them on the floor, they will learn more there then in their nest box. as said ...leave them with the parents till they are feathered under the wings and eating well on their own

Hi, the area that the hand is covering is the area that people talk about 'feathering up under the wing'. Its usually the last place to feather and once feathered it is usual to shift the youngster - as long as you know it is eating for itself too.

The fact that the bird has already left the box is also a sign that it it is ready, don't advise leaving it on the floor - as post says danger of it being attacked by any older pigeon and scalped.

hi mb  i agree with geronimo and bruno and definitely wouldnt leave a squeaker on the loft floor because it could be attacked by the other pigeons (i had a squeaker badly injured by a angry cock bird) i know it can be hard to keep them in their nestboxes when they start wandering but all you can do is keep your eye on them and try and make sure they dont leave their nestboxes until they are ready  i personally would give them another 3-5 days before letting them roam about the loft   its easy for them to jump out of the nestbox but they then find that they cant fly back up to it and if they stray into another nestbox thats when they are at risk of being attacked         all the best
