PIGEON_MAN Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 With such a lot of talk going on at the moment about buying and selling pigeons it got me thinking about pigeons that were bought in for stock this time last year,I was wondering are the members happy with the youngsters you bred off them, did the birds breed you winners, did you spend a load of money because the bird was off or closely related to a champion and it,s bred you nothing,be interested to know what results people have had off birds they bought in for stock.
phillips Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 i bred myself 28 ybs this yr from my stock and finished with 21 ybs it was by far my best season winning 24 prizes and 2 fed cards if i had the room to continue houseing the stock i would not have got rid ov them but i think in this sport if you havent got the room to house stock why try and make room making matters worse by overcroding
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 28, 2007 Author Report Posted September 28, 2007 Good pigeons that breed winners are very hard to find and once you have found a pair don,t let them go,I know you were stuck for room Phillips but if that was me i would have made room for a few pairs of the stock birds that bred the winners and had less racers.
THE FIFER Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 racers can be here 2 day but gone 2 moro, so good to keep good breeders, as they can always replace the racers.
Guest Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 My mate bought birds from a man called Cliff Dennis in 2003. one pair of pigeons has bred 6 x 1st fed toppers since then ,this is the same pair that bred my national winner. In one round one season either last year or season before, 2 nest mates both topped the fed.Last year 5 were bred from them , and after racing them hard the 5 were there at the end of the y/b season. The nest mate to the Dam of my national winner bred the cock who was 2nd national in the same race! Now that is a family of pigeons!! He also has a 97 cock who topped the fed 3 times (if not more) himself, but he is now responsible for at least 20 + x 1st fed toppers. one been a cock named '200' who has topped the fed 4 times himself and now he is breeding winners! I think at the last count my mate had 23 - 25 individual fed toppers in his loft. This season he has had 19 x 1st including 9 x 1st fed, and this is flying in one club only. Over the past 20 + years he has built upa team of pigeons who will breed winners and who will win races themselves. and thats what we are all looking for. ....I must add a few years ago he had a full page advert in the BHW birds priced at £25?? (think im correct in that) and not one phone call!! I wonder if they were £150 each would they have gone then? Since then he doesnt bother to advertise he just has fanciers giving him a call now and then who know the quality and wish to purchase the birds.

That's human nature, we are programmed to think if it's more expensive then it must be better And there is the must haves and the can't haves
Guest Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 My truthful answer must be no. In my opinion Success and Failure lie on the same line and each come in varying degrees. On the absolute failure front:- I've got rid this year of a cock thats son of 5th Open SNFC Rennes 560 miles that paired with different hens; and a hen thats daughter of a 1st Combine Brussels 560 miles, and twice in open in SNFC Rennes thats been paired to different cocks - neither bird has bred a feather to complete a season never mind take a prize - any prize; > Half way along the line on the borderline between Failure and Success lies my main stock cock who paired with different hens [except the one above] has bred some promising pigeons - by that I mean offspring consistently taking minor club positions and looked as if they might do something 'next year', but don't. I honestly think in this cock's case its really me that's not living up to his expectations - I haven't been working them right. :-/
