Iqbal Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Hi all, After all the help and advice you folks gave me, I managed to lose my 2 pure white logans. Only had them for 3 weeks and opened the hutch door to get them familiarise with the location and they both flew in different direction and never came back. They were only 11 weeks old. I did not feed them the morning I let them out. Thought thy'ed sit on the roof and come back down for food. This was on Tuesay 30th January at 11am. I've put a note in the Lost and found section if anyone finds them. Cheers Mohammad
stevebelbin Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 A cat or hawk may have scared them in the hutch when you wernt about, this would cause them not to come back! There is always still chance they will come home :-)
Guest Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 :'( sorry to hear that Mo , chin up , they may still return . good luck andy 8)
Iqbal Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 Thanks for your replies. Is 3 weeks enough time for them to get to know the place before releasing them, as they were only 11 weeks old?
Peckedhen Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Sorry you've lost them I lost my first mature Logans after having them for six days!! After about three days one returned to the house roof. I put down a trail of seeds leading into the loft and it followed them in. Don't give up hope there's time yet. Did you ever put your birds outside the loft so that they could look at it from outside? Best next time to put them out before they can fly, sit them on the landing board for half an hour then call them in for food so they learn how trap. I do this every day and keep an eye on them, they go to the loft roof and then the house roof. The more time they have looking around the more chance they can find their way home. Don't frighten them let them fly when they're ready. Hope they return.
Lance Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 It stings, losing birds you liked. I lost 3 a few weeks ago. One a day, and then on the 3rd day i noticed something. A hawk, circling my house....
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 theres still time i had a bird come back 3 weeks later, befor and i thought i would never see it again!
mobster Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 i have the same problem before. when a friend told me that let them out hungry at 5:30pm, almost dark so that when they fly they wont go far and returns inside the loft for food. i do it for 3 weeks than shift to 3pm for 3 weeks then again shift it to early morning and noon.
crazy pigeon boy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 you can start to let them out as soon as they have been weaned from the pearents this is the best thing to do that way they know where they live before they think about flying have them out every day from the day they are weaned
jimmy white Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 so sorry you lost your white ones , but as the previous posts suggest their better seeing the loft in an aviary or veranda b4 letting them out ,, but lets hope you see them again :)
