I am starting a new loft I am building it from recycled materials this is the first load of pallets that we brought home I have discovered a whole warehouse full of these we will disassemble them and get the nails out of them, I plan to build it on 16" centers as most of these contain pieces that are at least 3' long I will use these horizontally and then use those less than 3' vertically so I should have almost 2" of thickness when the walls are sided. I plan to make it at least 8' x 16' I have already set the posts for the fly pen it will be 16' x 24' I plan to build another the same size at the opposite end of this one and then connect the two with single mating pens ( at least 10 ) these will be used to house prisoners and when both are complete I will use one for cocks and one for hens

I got the boards for framing the the walls from a church that was being torn down they are 2" x 10" and most are 10 to 12 footers I plan to use the bottom boards off the pallets stood on edge as flooring this should be a very strong loft and nearly hurricane proof as I will also use construction adhesive as well as ring shank nails

It really is a brilliant setting and its good to see that wood getting re-used.

makes some difference to what you can do when you are not tied to a small garden, the fly pen looks massive , would not fancy trying to catch them in there tho ;D but looks good

I have a fly pen almost this size already we use a net to catch birds in it that is why we use it for prisoners its way to hard to try to control racers in this loft

Thats a good idea mate, may I suggest that instead of dismantel the pallets, you use them like they are and the hight of the pallet( about 4") will be your thickness of the wall, this will save you a lot of work and as you said you can have as much as you need, then cover all with the plywood or what ever.
