DJ Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 i can understand fanciers trying to protect their pigeons against fox attacks but i cannot understand why some approve of their dogs attacking foxes and other fanciers applauding their actions? as one fancier said on here, the only way to get rid is to get rid once and for all???? at the end of the day the foxes are hunting instinctivly and surely all u should be doing is making sure that your pigeon shed is fox proof and not trying to harm them debbie

Like i said its a natural instinct for my dog and she considers the birds as members of her pack,so instinctively she guards the home and lofts and surrounding areas from introduers of the human kind and of the feline and fox sort!!

DJ Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 i can understand fanciers getting angry when their pigeons are killed or upset by foxes as ive now got very attached to my two pigeons but surely prevention is better then attacking them? one of the first things i did after getting my pigeons was to have somebody make sure that my shed was safe and secure from any predators i know that i have only just started out with pigeons and have a lot to learn but i hate to see any animal hurt when it is just trying to survive in the wild debbie ps where is gangsterville anyway ?
Wiley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 THE WILD is the key word you used! Think about it!
DJ Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 sure i can understand wild animals being killed by wild animals wiley but surely we are above that?
Wiley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 ya never understood my point DJ it is clear. you are right foxes are wild animals, but racing pigeons are not. They are bred in captivity and when something is tamed to a human is called tame. Tame is the opposite to wild.So it isnt the point of wild vs wild. Its my duty to protect my birds and protect my birds as i see fit, so if my dog wishes to go out in the garden when it can smell the foxes which it often can it can. Will go out and not once has my dog come face to face with a fox, but its sensed them in the garden and as soon as the door opens the fox is gone like the speed of light.

A NOT VERY NICE PLACE BELIEVE....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
DJ Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 yeh wiley i understand that racing pigeons are tame and must be protected from wild animals such as foxes but surely in this day and age there must be deterents on the market that should prevent fox attacks ? dont think for a minute that im not sympathetic with other fanciers who have had fox attacks its just that i hate to see wild animals killed/injured when all they are doing is trying to survive debbie ps maybe i should try the peeing up the pigeon shed door but i dread to think what my neighbours would think if they were watching lol
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 RIGHT DEBBIE IT HAS BEEN MADE VERY CLEAR IT IS ARE OWN WAY OF DEALING WITH FOXES AFTER WHAT A FOX HAS DONE TO MY SHED AND FRIGHTENED MY BIRDS I WOULD QUITE HAPPLY SET DOGS ON IT OR SHOOT IT,HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO GOT OUT TO YOUR SHED TO FIND IT CHEWED TO PIECES I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BITS OF MY SHED,AND HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO FIND YOUR PIGEONS DAMAGED OR KILLED BY FOXES, YOU WOULDNT SO END OF DISCUTION!
jupiter_19630 Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 Foxes are getting more townified with each generation. I live in the middle of an estate that has loads come scavenging for food at night. I used to worry about them getting into my loft but now I don't as I know that my loft is secure and they keep the cats and rats at bay. I had a visit from rats when I was a kid, and it aint nice to find your first ever round of babies dragged round the garden with their heads bit off.
gangster Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 DJ WITH RESPECT I HOPE YOU DONT HAVE TO SUFFER FINDING ANY OF YOURS AFTER A FOX ATTACK, COZ IT WILL OPEN YOUR EYES TO THESE "LOVELY ANIMALS" AND THE DAMAGE THEY DO !!!!!! YOU MAY THEN SEE WHY PEOPLE REACT TO THEM.........
DJ Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 i can understand fanciers reactions especially if they have been the victim of a fox attack id be angry as well but its nature of course im not saying that its ok for foxes to help themselves to our pigeons all im saying is that with a secure shed and other deterents surely we shouldnt need to kill foxes i realise that foxes are cunning/devious animals and not cuddly pets but they are trying to survive in the wild and will obviously hunt for food i apoligise if ive upset anyone with my views as that is the last thing i wanted to do especially after everybody has been so good to me offering advice and pigeons when i first started with my 2 strays debbie
gangster Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 dj you aint upset me your entitled to your opinion im big and ugly enough to not get too upset... ;D ;D ;D ;D
mO Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 As with ALL vermine 2 legged and 4 legged I believe you must ensure your lofts are Secure, we put are birds into a captive environment where they cann't protect themselves and therfore are totally reliant on us. mO
