with so many fanciers selling pigeons regularly would u class them as (a seller of pigeons that races or ....a racer that sells pigeons?

myself...and its only my opinion,i believe there are too many in the sport in it for the money, maybe  im wrong but its only my opinion....paul :)

Paul, I don't disagree..........however we are in a commercial age and we now have businessmen worth a lot of money living in council houses! Its all about supply and demand, after all no one used to complain 30 years ago about the fancier who set up a corn business and went on to make a good living out of it? The sport has to move on the problem is it is not taking fanciers with it. There are many fanciers in my part of the woods for example that want to fly at local / fed level but they are dissapearing because the area is not catering from them (and there are difficult reasons) most are now only interested in Classic races or one loft racing, which I'm not condemning but lets look after the little man too, cause without little men to beat you won't have the big money men But I for one say good luck to you if you make a living out of pigeons, as long as you're not a con man!!

I don't think the ordinary fancier will ever get rich selling his pigeons he may well make enough to keep him in corn but no fancy holidays unless you have a loft full of Champions. For me the end of the season comes too fast I would like to see some races for latebreds or young pigeons that may have had a setback along the way that is unless you keep your latebreds for stock off your best racers. Bring on the comeback races for old hens and later bred birds!!! then I could see what to keep and what to let go.

i agree on both sides as long as he is doing no harm to others, the price of petrol and corn ect ect nowdays is deer so if a man i selling birds let him as it will help to pay for all the things he needs through out the season, the only people i disagree with on selling pigeons are the ones that sell there birds on pld resaults and i know a few ( no names mentioned)

i dont mean by any means the fancier that sells to make a few quid back after a season.im talking about the ones that regularly are selling birds throughout the year,i know its up to them wot they do but i think some fanciers have so many pigeons coming up for sale(yb,s and o/bs throughout the season. seems that every week they have new breeds to sell, makes u wonder at times wot size lofts must half of these have....paul :)

Paul, can not doubt the truth in what you say..........be thankful you have the wisdom to identify these...... many haven't!

paul its called a free country, this is where those important pieces of paper come into play called pedigrees.i always ask myself where do they get there prices for the birds there selling .

typical stock bird for sale the town hall cock paired to the streeter hen from the magical pair the fielder and the lamp post hen £500.00

or

old bob smiths cock no paper work from long line of winners £10.00

now which one would sell

personally i have never sold a pigeon in my life ,ive given plenty away .

but each to there own i have no problem with anyone selling pigeons or for whatever price they quote ,yes it always amazes me how many birds some keep and sell ,but if i was spending £500 on a pigeon i would want it dna testing to make sure the bird was from the pair i was buying .second i would want to see the place cards it had won (not the pedigree) if it hadnt got any i wouldnt buy it.

i always work on if its not good enough for me its no good for you

False pedigreeing used to be rife in the dog world, breeders with champions would pass off other dogs from their stud as pups of the champions. Especially to novices or as pets, owners would say they had one from King Fookit of Patterdale to everyone, just like having a pair of hush puppies from NEXT sucker please

No doubt the same in parts of the pigeon world and beyond :-/

whilst people buy bits of paper this will always go on ,its like people breeding pigeons over here with belgium and dutch rings on ,saying it was bred in the loft of so so champion this has gone on for years .

just ask around the stalls at blackpool how many pedigrees are stolen each year ,still cheaper then buying the bird and theres always someone willing to buy what evers offered off certain champions .

ask yourself this

i have four pairs of stock birds all flown all won several races all breeding winners for myself and others .

am i going to sell them   eeeerrrrrrrr nooooooooo

anyone can say their pigeons have bred winners yet people buy them.

would you sell birds breeding winners ,if these birds where that good there fellow club members would be buying them .

you can bet if this person had one pedigree van winner and won a race to sell them pigeons every pigeon in the loft would be from that pigeon for sale at some nice price except the pigeon its self unless for a large amount .

look around how many pigeons are for sale hundreds all breeding winners from £25.00 to thousands .

all off champions

Eagle Owl agree with 99%, however you rarely find club members wanting to buy off another member no matter how good, why I don't know perhaps 'a prophet in his own land etc'

Well half the BHW is given over to sales adverts, so that's at least half that paper that's not read.  :)

Can't really answer the question but often wondered what people were thinking about buying birds from these sources? Will buying a few from what can perhaps be reasonably described as big fishes in little ponds really help raise the game for ordinary fanciers like me who can perhaps be reasonably described as little fish in a big pond? My first thought on some of these adverts is who are these guys?

Also often wondered on some of the 'Belgian' names advertising in UK press, who are these guys? if I took out a full page advert in the 'Belgian' press could I really expect folk over there to buy them? Certainly I wouldn't expect to advertise here and be able to sell them.  :)

the trouble is these belgium dutch fanciers are talked about  like there gods in pigeon racing .so their pigeons become the latest craze selling for big money ,everyone thinks these pigeons are better then the ones over here and will improve there lofts performance .

why do some people shout about these pigeons ,because they got them and see it as a quick money earner .

you see people in the bhw selling pigeons at £50.00 plus after winning the young bird averages in there clubs five members sending 250 birds per week are they good pigeons are they worth £50.00 each

my advice next time you look at a bird for sale ,ask what the birds won against what birdage ask what the parents have won .if they say nothing its a stock bird but breeds winners dont buy it.

as for these belgium and dutch birds for sale constantly over here its simple no one wants them in there own country .

you will allways get fanciers selling pigeons,, for one reason or another , its completely up to the buyer and the seller ,, fortunately most are gennuine ,, but allways the one that" cheats"  , so really its up to the buyer to seek as much info as poss ,, possibly recomendations from good honest pigeon men would help the buyer ,, but theres just as many good birds going cheep [especialy the young birds ;D] or even free [birds every bit as good ]

Another one of my pet hates : BANNER HEADLINE - well known fancier's name.

Screeds of performances [for that well known fancier]

Seller - a completely different person.

[just noticed initials ASS , subliminal message describing buyer?]

Just look at the "Mardon Van Reets" Total sale last year at Blackpool, now loads are advertising their stock! Never been raced, just bought 12 months ago to churn out youngsters for sale this year.

thats why people buy from these big names to make money on the back of there performances, not to improve there own team but to sell young birds at fancy prices .look at the sales this last weekend how many buyers will be selling youngsters from these come the new year plenty.
