I pair up the back end of January.  I found that when I did pair up early my 2nd rounders were always the better pigeons. I put this down to training the 1st rounders to late. I had the choice of start training earler or pairing up later, went for the later.

Nah but they'll hold their feathers in and be more sexually mature which is an advantage if your flying yb widowhood and trying to compete against darkness YB's. Still some people fo seem to be pairing up earlier and earlier new years day will do me ;D

Nothing is guranteed to be a champion but i have always had better results with earlier bred young birds.

A method i am trying this year and whether it works for me or not i dont know is to, once the old bird race season is over i will be moving ALL old birds out of the main loft into the 16ft loft, thus giving my young birds the full 32ft this will give the young cock s the chance to race to a widowhood box as a youngster and also give the pigeons that bit more space and although i do not overcrowd i feel the more space the better.
