What are pedigrees

Hi,

 

Could someone please explain what the pedigree history is?

 

I've seen a few mails on this site stating grandson of this and sister of that.

 

What does this all mean?

 

Are all pigeons named after the breeder for example janssen and warren fosters?

 

Are for example logans bred with janssens? if so what will they be classified as?

to answer your question properly its the family tree of the pigeons background of all its ancestors and any valuable info that you may be looking for.Me i dont take into the account that its a fancy piece of paper but agree that it gets people paying a lot more for them.

So what would be a pedigree for a logan cross bred with a janssen?

 

 

One half logan, one half janssen or what ever fraction they are bred from, pedigree is just a recorded family tree. Basically does not mean anything apart from a record of this,

It is up to you or the buyer to decide if you want that breed lines

I have two pure white, both bred from a pure white pair bred from a white, bred from pure white........Chances are they will breed pure white, so if you want a pure white????

I have a national winner bred fom a ten times nation winner paired with a ten times national winner, all the grand parents were ten times national winners, all the great granparents were ten times national winners

I have a pure bred Janssen right from MR Janssen himself, never one a jot, never been oot the loft but what a breeding, a pedigree as long as you arm. Open to offers

its the sire and dam what they are, and the g/parents etc it lets u know what they are bred from, also what the parents etc have done in racing or bred in the past.

If you have knollege of  the form of certain pigeons and you are specifiacly interesetd in lines and performance of the same and logging family ancestory then a pegigree is not worth a bean.....

 

Its just a record / family tree that is not govenered by any body........that can be drawn by anyone.....dosnt mean a birds is any better than a birds with no history..

 

Like I say...a £20K bird will fly no better that a feral if the loft management isn't right!!!!

So the following add in the "for sale" section means that "Max" and "Wain Lea Max are names given to pigeons by the owner or is it some other meaning?

Yes...........just like racing horses and dogs.......Personally I have Buschaert Rapidos.....one I have given the pet name of 'Growler', simply becasue he hates me.....

If I race with him and he proves expeptional with many wins under his belt, then I put him into stock and sell the 'direct youngsters of Growler'...x club 1sts....x fed 1sts,,,,1st in this x2 firsts in that............slip some nice photos in to the advert....£150 per bird...........convincing to the novice isn't it?.........I did however forget to mention that 'The Growler' was given to me by an old bloke who bred it as a late bred and did want to bin it.....    

 

 

 

the buyer should assume responsibilty for validating the claim in the first..............but unless you are certain................it means nothing.

Thanks, that's much clearer.  Now to the follow on question.  What is a late bred, is this because there's a specific time pigeons are bred, if so what is the breeding season, and how does this effect the racing pigeon?

quite simply a late bred bird is bred late on in the racing season.....Its too yongu to race for that year...but if from good stock 'could' b a welcome visitor in someones stock loft.  

 

 

Most racing pigeons arebred at teh beginning of the year so that they are good and strong come racing time

Just a word on pedigrees, English fanciers can race for years with great success yet they will almost never have a strain of pigeon named after them. Yet Belgian fanciers can buy pigeons from anywhere and they will then take their name! Don't seem right, but that's the way it is.
