Could anyone tell me what the best date to pair up to have the youngsters for the darkness system is ?

Is the earlier the better to pair and get the rings on them as early as possible?

Out of interest why would you need to put birds on darkness if you pair boxing day because early bred y/birds left natral moult and hold there wings just like darkness youngbirds so don't see the point darking the loft if you pair then.

i dont think they will complete the full body moult on nat even when bred at that time of the year ive done it for the last 3 year and cant say anything bad about it yes i do aggree that you can pair up later but that suits me as i fly roundabout with my old birds and that date gives me time to get the y/birds away in time to get my old birds ready for the 1st race

i paired up in december and the early bred y/bs held thier wing flights the whole season including to the y/b national

around 3 or 4 flights left, the febuary bred y/bs threw them and were stopped with around 2 races to go

normally its just stok this year gonna try all so 1st 2nd round closer 2gether
whate disdance do your doos fly just thinking it would be hard to keep them with a ful wing for racing if you pair up to early for the distance  and keeping them motaveted if your on widowhood or round about with your old birds
