It all depends on your local club, fed etc. Some clubs have a pooling system (betting) where you bet on your birds ina race, this somethimes applies to feds etc.

Some clubs/feds will have a prize system where you will get moneyfor winning a race. usually this money comes from the birdage paid. E.G. if your birdage is normally 30p per bird, the club may charge 40p and then the extra 10p will be used as prize money.

our club has a £5.00 Nom bet where you nominate 1 bird each and the frst person to time there nomed bird in wins the 5ers. Just as a side bet we also have the pool money which starts @ 5p upto £1

hi dk, r u sure that the club you are joining fly in that fed as you live in west wales .

have you heard about 1 loft races as you can win a lot of money in them,the europa classic race which runs from cardiff pays £30,000 for 1st prize in the main race of a series of races.plus there's a couple of cars to be won ,it costs £200 to enter a team of 3 birds(yb's)

hmm i see well the club im joining fly in the Shropshire fed and it cost £45 to race

 

Its probably £45  to join and for the fed and rpra fee's .You will have to pay per bird each week as well.The prize money is nothing to write home about unless your in the big race clubs ie:one of the national's and then only if you pool your bird.Most people who make money out of the pigeon sport do so by selling birds or pigeon product's.

Try and get hold of the clubs balance sheet, that should tell you what your paying for and where it goes.
