Thats a good idea might try that next year yto get them used to each other. Do they get better as two year olds to pair or are they still a nightmare when pairing them to a different hen?

Most of them are building nests now in the nestboxes so looks like things are ok. My dad uis starting to take an interest again and with me being at work he's took over and was letting them in and out of their boxes a pair at a time and making sure no hens got scalped

Always pair mine up for a week about a month before the main event, dont get much trouble then when you put them back together and all birds will be down on eggs within a week of eachother if they are fit and healthy

Yes! pairing can be a nightmare, unless one goes the right way about it. There is a RIGHT TIME, to introduce, ie:- The birds, the bowls, the nesting materials and even the feed.Believe you me.     During these hectic 8 days or so, I spend more time, up and down to the loft, than any other time in the season.      But even the most experienced of us, still have the odd hiccup. Just when we think everything is lovely dovey, KAPOW! we are rudely awakenned. Some yearling cocks are bananas" from the off, yet others seem to lose it, as their drive to nest increases. Yes! this is actually one of the joys of this great game, I,m sure some nof you will will disagree with me. ;D
