edthekid Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 just got me some 14mm dowel for some sliding doors i want to build........what size gap should i leave in between each dowel cheers
DAVIDL Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 hi,ive done one and a half inch centres using 12 mm dowell, might make it a little narrow on 14mmm.id do one and three quarters to two inch.(only my oppinion)
Lennut Tar Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 try 2" centres m8 thats what i do There is no argument, that dowel doors like the above look very nice, if on the outside of the loft etc. My problem with them !!!!!! is, that rats mice starlings & sparrows gain access, to easily to the birds inside. Enjoy.
Guest Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 14 mm dowel quite big so 1 3/4" or 2" should be fine, but would recommend you drill the support timbers with bench drill or rig. If holes not drilled straight will bow dowels and cause smaller/bigger gaps between each. Would always use wire behind them if on external of loft.
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 if you put top /middle and bottom cross rails together then get your tri square and mark all three rails at the same time and using your tri square as the measurement for the distance in beetween each dowel then all pieces will be in line presuming of course the square is the none sliding one the measurement is approx 2inch
edthekid Posted January 25, 2008 Author Report Posted January 25, 2008 alot to take onboard...........thanxs
