chubs Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I'm thinking of fitting the back of my shed/loft with boxes big enough for pairs if that's required, what would be ideal size & should they be varnished in some way & if so with what, i've seen a lot of lofts painted in white stuff, thought this looks clean & bright??? any advice gladley taken. cheers, james.
thunderboult Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 roughly about 20 inches wide ,14 inches deep and about 12 inches high although pigeons will nest anywhere, if you only got box perches they'll nest there. the white stuff is just paint for fancier's benefit although years ago they used lime wash i think(1 of the younger generation) i don't know if they still use this, some might. :-/
jimmy white Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 my brother , a canary fancier ,, has all his show carrying boxes painted pale blue , all his breeding cages too,, when i asked him why? he reckons this has a calming effect on the birds ,, with w, hood cocks, ive found this to be true [light blue emulsion to let the wood breath ,,,gloss or varnish could cause condensation , when theres 2 big yb,s and 2 adults in the box
