Just had a fox cub by the loft.  Threw some water over it and it scampered off, was so interested in the doos that it didnt see me coming!

Does anyone know if there is something you can out round the loft to stop them coming near, you know like cat's hate chilli powder.

I've got farms near by with spring lambs and chickens about at the moment, I'm terrified the little devil will get in the loft somehow.  I've got sensor lights for night time so hopeful that will frighten them off, but don't want to chance it, and i'm not usually here all day in the daytime. :-/

Oh heck!!  :o

A quick google search brought up the following that might be applicable:

Restrict use of birdseed. Fox are attracted to it and to the birds and rodents that use the feeder. !!

Spray an ammonia/water solution under the deck; strategically place mothballs around the area.

Battery operated flashing lights, tape recorded human noises, scattered moth balls and ammonia-soaked rags strategically placed may deter foxes from entering your yard.

Thanks Sue, I'll get on to it right away.  I can do the amonia and tape recording, can you still buy mothballs?

Yes  - you'll have to make sure the ybs can't get to them - they'll have a peck at anything!!  The mothballs contain naphthaline which I'm sure won't do them any good at all!!

We used to use strong creosote around the pheasant pens, they don't like the smell!

I was once told to get an old radio and tune it to radio 4 which talks 24/7. Put it in the loft no so loud as to annoy the neighbours but loud enough to let the foxes hear. They are supposed to be suspicious of human voices and should keep them away.Failing that certain types of snares are still legal and often effective but can be cruel looking.
