ship guy Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 Hi everyone, Just finished my watch, pigeon is fine, he/she REALLY LIKES MUNG BEANS. How much do I feed it? A little and often, or just pile it on it's plate. Basically it has been fed on cracker biscuits since it came onboard, so last night I just gave it the usual amount of biscuits broken up, and added a bit of dried uncooked rice and also a "half a tot" portion of Mung Beans, it went crazy for the mung beans, picking out each individual one, then the rice was eaten, it left some of the biscuits. It has a deep plastic biscuit box for it's fresh water trimmed down to about 6 cms high. Any more guidance is welcome. Has anyone recognised the ring markings? regards Ship Guy too tired to sort out the photo's right now, I need a kip!
Guest chrisss Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 japanese 2007 bred ,it sounds to me like its doing fine,it might bugger off once with in sight of land again.
ship guy Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 Thanks Chriss, I am concerned that it is weak through lack of sleep, I was on watch from midnight to mid-day, the work I do, I can keep an eye on the pigeon most of the time, I noticed that it is just like a human, whereby, when tired, the eyes start closing, but anything can disrupt that, especially on a ship. I have deliberately not fed the pigeon, to prevent him from expecting food from me, hoping that he will disembark the vessel and go home. But now he comes straight to me, then turns and walks away, then returns to me etc. He first appeared onboard the day after Typhoon "Rammasun", but prior to that we experienced earthquakes at the ships location off Japan, I was on watch when the bad earthquake rocked and shaked the ship that I am on at 01:45 in the morning. May I just take this opportunity to say, I am onboard an extremely sophisticated ship, it is not a fishing boat or container ship, I also know that every person reading this post relies on the work that I am getting paid to do. Why has there been more questions asked of me, than answers given to how I care for the pigeon??????? best regards Ship Guy
ozbrit Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 it should be ok with the food your giving it and fresh water like chriss said once your near land again it'll probably fly back home, when are you likely to be near japan next? The earthquake and bad weather is probably the cause for it's little detour to your ship
DJ Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 well done ship guy for looking after the lost pigeon i would carry on giving it food/water until you dock and as ozbrit says it should then make its own way home debbie
