Guest Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 one of the biggest assests a pigeon fancier needs is patience and knowing when a good bird has had enough ......and how right you are Rose. If I had a penny for every time i've heard that i'd be rich! Still, have to hold my hand up and admit I've been guilty of that aswell! Have lost many good birds through sending it to the well once too often! Patience, every top fancier has this in abundance. In youth, we are nearly all impetuous, things have to happen quickly for us. Youthful vitality, powerful vigour, it drives us forward at such a pace, if we could only bottle it eh? As we get older, and mature, we get wiser, we understand things more clearly, and with this understanding naturally comes patience! My old gran, god rest her soul, used to say, if only you could put an old head on young shoulders. I was in my early thirties before I understood what she meant! LOL

Guest chrisss Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 My family is from South Wales, and the damage was already done there. Her philosophy was that there was 'no such thing as society'. Well, she said it, and she made it so. Look what her government spawned. I just hope that when she finally pops her clogs, 'society' won't have to pay for her State funeral. no i hope not but i would pay to watch it!!!!
tomm1e Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Just reading this and other threads some rules of thumb which might reduce yb losses are clear: 1. only train early evening. Reasons: fewer hawks hunting (hopefully); and if pigeons do make a mistake they won't have enough daylight to fly themselves into the ground and should work back next day. 2. release in small batches. Reasons: makes pigeons think about what they are doing; and if they are attacked or make a mistake it is one small batch not the entire yb team. 3. i read somewhere it is a good idea to place basket at lib site and leave it for 10 or 15 minutes before release. Its just possible pigeons start to get their bearings even in the basket. any more suggestions
ch pied Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 that just about cover's it , a little bit of savvy goes a long way
