paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 it would be interesting to see what the casualtys are so far for this year.ob and yb.
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 got killed second toss,[young birds] never even got to race, back on my feet waiting for next year ;D ;D ;D ;D
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 it would paul but your poll fails as may have losted old birds and ybs so no muliple answers would be allowed via your poll , and are these losess(a) around loft ( training © racing ?
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 it would paul but your poll fails as may have losted old birds and ybs so no muliple answers would be allowed via your poll then go for the greater number, this could be an interesting thread
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 got killed second toss,[young birds] never even got to race, back on my feet waiting for next year ;D ;D ;D ;D thats terrible have any been reported to you.
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 thats terrible have any been reported to you. yep sent 30,lost 20 [at the start they clashed i think] they were reported all over the place ,1 dead in essex,1 reported in durham[it flew 206 miles into the wind to get there!!!]1 in alysbury, but most just "went",a sign of the times i think, the same day mine went walkabout, 4 other club members got battered as well, the funny thing is since then 7 have made their way back, some have been in somewhere and been tossed up closer to home [cheers whoever you were]some must have walked very slowly ;D ;D ;D,but have been very flown out
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 i have often wondered if wild birds migrating to the wrong countrys, whales swimming onto beaches and other mysterious animal misshaps are all conected some way with the massive pigeon losses that fanciers are suffering.
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 it would paul but your poll fails as may have losted old birds and ybs so no muliple answers would be allowed via your poll , and are these losess(a) around loft ( training © racing ? your losses in general including training, exercising and racing.the number does not have to be accurate, just to get an idea of the extent of the problem all fanciers face.
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 so far 6 members have sadly reported big losses but on a brighter note 3 have reported 100% returns
superstar Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 100% returns with old birds but second YB race was a disaster, lost 11 out of the 23 sent. Not had one reported or anything work back so God knows where they all went and there wasnt a fancier in our club that didnt have his team at least halved that day.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 im a novice first year flying young birds have nearly been wiped out but i have 4 belters left that are coming well now was up with the winning birds last week didnt win but with them have you all experienced losses like this just this year or is it the same every year
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 im a novice first year flying young birds have nearly been wiped out but i have 4 belters left that are coming well now was up with the winning birds last week didnt win but with them have you all experienced losses like this just this year or is it the same every year i am hoping to christ it is just this year, but my father in law [ex fancier] told me that during the 1970s/80s young birds losses were bad as well
PEGGYSUE Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 i wouldnt mind but i never seem to get any of my losses reported, all wings stamped and telephone number on ring.missing 4 from last race anyone gets any in beginning gb o8 k38730-70 please ring.......
Guest spin cycle Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 im a novice first year flying young birds have nearly been wiped out but i have 4 belters left that are coming well now was up with the winning birds last week didnt win but with them have you all experienced losses like this just this year or is it the same every year i've only been flying 3 years....my experience is that yb racing is nothing like ob. i didn't race ybs in my first year and looking back my loft is better for it. more experienced and better flyers may tell you different...but thats my experience

I know the feeling I haven't had a pigeon reported in years! Sure they cant all be dead
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 can we only vote once ? as many times as you like, race by race if you like.we will get a good idea of what is happening to our feathered friends.
paul10121968 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 i've only been flying 3 years....my experience is that yb racing is nothing like ob. i didn't race ybs in my first year and looking back my loft is better for it. more experienced and better flyers may tell you different...but thats my experience the pole supports your statement,it shows that old bird losses are conciderably less than young bird losses.
S.D.B LOFTS Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 July 19th first young bird had 52 birds now down to 28 nearly 50% missing mainly cocks nothing reported. :(
Guest IB Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Just went over my OB losses and worse than I thought: 1 training, 10 racing. Tempt fate / count chickens but YB losses so far with 3 longest races still to come: lost off top = 2; racing = 4.
hepste Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 A more interesting statistic would be that showing the percentage of loss from each loft.
jimmy white Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 cotinual losses ofyb,s [getting worse in the last ten years] is there a need for this annual slaughter of the youngsters ,,,in the old days we used to like them all raced out to yb nat,[and it was quite easily possible], nowadays not possible,,,and as far as birds being reported [even with stamped wings, or phone nos on rings] are close to nil,,,something dreadfully amiss ,, found out yb,s trained raced 100 miles ,,will be as good as any other as two year old [problem is the losses usually occur up to 100 miles :-/ :-/ :-/],, tell me one fancier who hasnt had a bang,,,,,yet :-/ :-/if not ,, sorry to say ,,your turn will come [sounds bad,,but true],,,,i think this has to be looked into very carefully , as to reasons etc , their not all bad birds
