Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Made a few inquiries about purchasing and keeping tipplers and tumblers but did not really get anywhere. So I have made inquires about racing pigeons. My local Pigeon club says I can only join up next January as they only take on new members at the beginning of the year. So looks like I have a whole season to get some birds ready as I have decided to keep racing pigeons.

It seems an odd rule for a sport that is crying out for new members, is this normal procedure for clubs accepting new members :-/ Billy has some rollers going free

The secretary I was chatting to said he would get a number for me (what ever that is but its £4:50) then they could supply me with rings for my young. So what other organizations do I need to join?

carlsberg Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 it will be for union fee's but have to say it does seem strange that you cannot join until january
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I was also advised to join rpra. Was told I could get rings from them but must be a member. So went to there site and downloaded the membership forms. Cost £10 to join but you need 2 members to propose you. As I know nobody with pigeons its unlikely I will get 2 proposers. I may get from my local club but I'm not permitted to join till next year. Seems hard work trying to get into pigeon racing.
carlsberg Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 if you spoke to the secretary and he said that if you pay the 4.50 and you can then get rings off them , then i can see no reason why they cant call a meeting and have you join as a member

pjc Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 scoobybob, the sec sounds out of date as the RPRA fee has gone up to £10 which is the fee he has qouted you for membership to the RPRA enableing you to get rings. If you download the form and fill it in, send it to me and i'll get it signed for you. Phil
Guest karl adams Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 can you not join a club at the start of the young bird season
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Think we are getting crossed wires here... At first it was suggested I join RPRA to get rings for my young while waiting to join the club in January. It was then suggested I pay the £4:50 for a ticket so as he could supply me with rings. Anyway the secretary said he would get back to me next week and let me know more.
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 can you not join a club at the start of the young bird season You must apply to join the club in writing and this goes to there annual meeting which is in January so they only take on new members in January.

pjc Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Applications can be taken at any meeting not just AGM's!
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 it sounded to me that the secretary was going to send for his union fee and get his rings from the club Union fee?
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I see, join the RPRA then I'm entitled to use the local clubs rings...Don't know where he got the £4:50 from..See how difficult it is for newbies that have no idea its no wonder the sport is in decline. I lucky to have a computer poor folks with no computer and not knowing any one in the sport have no chance.
carlsberg Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Applications can be taken at any meeting not just AGM's! thats what i thought but maybe they have a club ruling that no one can join till the agm
pjc Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 some clubs have membership limits and can only take new members when others resign which usualy happens at AGM but sec should say if thats the case!

So what other organizations do I need to join? when you get a loft number you become a member of rpra but it costs 10 pound to join as an individual member but a member of a club only pays 4.50
Guest scoobybob Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Never said anything about limits only they are to busy to sort out new members because of transfers etc, so only take on new members at the AGM. I'm not to worried about this as have no intention of racing this year.
Guest mikkey Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 some clubs have membership limits and can only take new members when others resign which usualy happens at AGM but sec should say if thats the case! these must be massive clubs if they got limits unless they scared of competition ;D

Guest mikkey Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 i think you should be made a member straight away, i thought pigeon racing was crying out no screaming out for new members
