Guest SPORTKA Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 With all this rain and high winds about how do you best judge on letting out ybs for the last two days i have flown mine for 30 mins of a morning but by teatime the winds have got up more and iv bottled lettin them out, just a bit concerened they wont be getting the knowledge/fitness they need, they are at the stage were they go off out of sight for 10/15 mins then return, I just feel now that im not going forward as I want to get on to road training them as soon as I can and im never gonna get em flying for an hour at this rate.
frank-123 Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 my young birds are still not flying but i am not worried they will go in there own time they just go up and down to the loft roof but they are happy and the peregrine is not chasing them around the sky
Guest Hjaltland Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 Patience sportka!... the weather can only be crap for so long and the YB season is a while away yet. The weather should be improving radically - soon 8) then all you need worry about is the fuel cost of training...
Guest chrisss Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 my young birds are still not flying but i am not worried they will go in there own time they just go up and down to the loft roof but they are happy and the peregrine is not chasing them around the sky exactly the same with the ones that i have got [some are not even out yet]just take your time with them, whats the point in taking risks with the future of your loft,i was getting worried when i saw some of the local flyers tearing up the skys with their yb,but they can afford to take chances they breed lots of babies,i will [maybe] lose a few when racing/training, and with this weather i have got to give them a fighting chance
Guest IB Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 Reckon reason you are not letting the YBs out Sportka is because there's a wee voice in your head saying that they are still of an age that makes it unwise to let them out in brisk winds. Remember while back thinking 'they'll not fly in this' and opening doors to let them potter about garden. Well one did decide to fly in it - straight out and away, and didn't see it again till next day - came back with ring leg broken behind the ring. I didn't try that again.
