MsPigeon Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I find all this info very interesting and the more I read the more I feel my friend has all the symptoms, he too has asthma. But I just visited him yesterday and he insists that the doctors know he has pigeons and have done the tests for PFL and that is not what he has. I also asked if it was cancer or emphazima and he says no. But still the best he wears in the loft is a handkerchief over his nose and mouth. Talk about stubborn! I think I will look into purchasing one of those good masks for him.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Ms PIGEON TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU SOME TYPE OF MASK IS ESSENTIAL WHETHER HE HAS PFL OR NOT.WHEN I FIRST JOINED OUR CLUB 10 YEARS AGO NONE OF THE MEMBERS EVER WORE MASKS OR EVEN SPOKE ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF YOU DIDNT WEAR ONE MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL QUITE OLDER THAN I AM AND IT DIDNOT BOTHER THEM. I JUST WISH I HAD BEEN TOLD SOMETHING ABOUT IT EARLIER ON AND I WOULD HAVE WORN A MASK. I HAVE TRIED MOST MASKS AND THE AIRCAP THAT IS BATTERY OPERATED WAS GOOD I FOUND IT WAS TOO UNCOMFORTABLE SO I CONTACTED MOLDEX WHICH IS BASED IN EUROPE { MAIN OFFICE } AND I ASKED WHAT ALTERNATIVE THEY COULD OFFER AND THEY SAID THAT I SHOULD USE A MOLDEX 4000 WHICH IS A HALF FACE MASK AND IT HAS DISPOSABLE FILTER PADS AND THEY TOLD ME FOR PIGEONS USE A PAD AT PP2 STANDARD WHICH FILLTERS NEARLY ALL DUSTS OR FOR MAXIMUM PPROTECTION THEY HAD FILLTER PADS AT PP3S WHICH KEEPS OUT EVERYTHING AND THIS IS THE MASK I USE ANYTIME I AM IN OR AROUND THE LOFTS.LIKE YOURSELF I AM INTERESTED TO HAVE READ ALL THE REPLIES FOR THIS THREAD BECAUSE YOU CAN ALLWAYS LEARN SOMETHING ELSE FROM SOMEONE.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Last question first (easier?) NO. That's why I'd be looking to improve or change the loft environment, and take advice from fellow-sufferers. DO YOU MEAN EASIER FOR ME OR YOU ? I've cut your post down to show the bit I'm picking up on, Tammy. I do hope that I have not given unintentional offence in my reply. I was simply saying that I'd take the last question (Could I give up birds) first because it was easier for me to answer that one than the question about pfl immunity. The answer was of course NO. I was hoping to follow up on how Willie equipped his loft as we were to attend a meeting tonight: meeting cancelled and won't see him now till next week, but I'll raise it with him then.. shame he's not on-line . .
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 BRUNO I WAS GOING TO POST THE SAME MESSAGE TO YOU BECAUSE A WEE WHILE AFTER I POSTED THE REPLY I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THAT YOUMIGHT ALSO BE OFFENDED, GLAD THATS CLEARED THAT. AS I SAID I DID ALOT OF RESEARCH IN TO THE BEST THINGS TO DO BUT I WILL ALLWAYS LISTEN TO ANY ADVICE GIVEN AND ANY CHANGES THAT I COULD MAKE .AND YES THAT QUESTION IS EASY FOR ANYBODY BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKING ME OUT IN A WOODEN JACKET BEFORE GIVING UP THE DOOS, AND EVEN THEN ON THE WAY OUT I WOULD BE ASKING IF I HAD TIMED IN. PS. DO LET ME KNOW HOW YOUR PAL DOES HAVE HIS LOFT SET UP.CHEERS BUD.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 DOES ANYBODY KNOW SOMEONE ,WHO SUFFERS BADLY FROM PFL, HAVE PICTURES OF THEIR LOFTS SO I COULD SEE THEM AS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE SET UP.
rockinrick Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 thnx for info folks ,i am going to speak with doctors to see if i am clear or not ,, thnx rockinrick
jimmy white Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 i really feel sorry for fanciers with pfl or asthmatic conditions, in over 50 odd years with pigeons, the dust or whatever has never effected me, yet my brother in law , gets severe asthma if he goes near the loft
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 JIMMY ALL MY CLUB MEMBERS ARE BETWEEN 60 AND 70 YRS OLD [EXCEPT ME ] AND THAT IS MAYBE WHY IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE CLUB WHEN I JOINED BECAUSE THEY WERE OLDER AND IT HAD NEVER BOTHERED ANY OF THEM.
MsPigeon Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Thanks for the mask tips Tammy. I'll make sure to get him a good one. Carol
DOVEScot Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 JIMMY ALL MY CLUB MEMBERS ARE BETWEEN 60 AND 70 YRS OLD [EXCEPT ME ] AND THAT IS MAYBE WHY IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE CLUB WHEN I JOINED BECAUSE THEY WERE OLDER AND IT HAD NEVER BOTHERED ANY OF THEM. Having found this through a link on another post from IB, I wonder why it never bothered the older guys who I assume had pigeons before Tammy :-/
Guest Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 true or false been told by older fanciers that if you smoked you didnt get P.F.L. know some fanciers with P.F.L. all have never smoked dave
Guest shadow Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 as most of the older lofts were dowel fronts you did not get a build up of the pigeon bloom where as the modern lofts are closed in giving rise to the problem
Novice Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 as most of the older lofts were dowel fronts you did not get a build up of the pigeon bloom where as the modern lofts are closed in giving rise to the problem I agree that enclosed lofts are a big contributor to this problem. I stopped work this year and enclosed my loft hoping to win some early races. The effect almost put me on my back as I struggled to breathe and the birds had the worst season ever. I have opened the loft back up and I feel better and the birds are flying better at home.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 true or false been told by older fanciers that if you smoked you didnt get P.F.L. know some fanciers with P.F.L. all have never smoked dave smoking certainly cuts down the risk dramatically of suffering from pigeon lung if not eliminating it at all, but is it worth maybe getting cancer ?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 youer so short of breath you dont notice
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 youer so short of breath you dont notice another one of your stupid replies
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 no the smokers so how is it stupid i smoke 45 day i dont suffer allergy
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Any idea why tam ?? was only told this by the specialist at the hospital so don't really know why
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 i dont take p out of serious illness so dont need stupid comments
Guest Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 i totally agree with you could it be the nicoten? would smokers chewing gum or patches help something to be looked into proffesionaly (just a thought) dave
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 i dont take p out of serious illness so dont need stupid comments well do not make them then
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 and reason smokers dont get affected is because there lugs are lined with years of nicotine there for spores do not irritate lungs as normaly would
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 smoking certainly cuts down the risk dramatically of suffering from pigeon lung if not eliminating it at all, but is it worth maybe getting cancer ? so how is my comment to youer post stupid
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 so how is my comment to youer post stupid [youer so short of breath you dont notice] so you think what you said above was sensible ?
