van Roberts Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 hello any info on training young birds through winter months
Guest paulrstokes Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I wouldn't, I would wait until spring
van Roberts Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 young hav'nt been raced this year been trained abit but not enough i think the young bird are may hatched
Guest paulrstokes Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 If they are trained a bit and May bred they will be Ok if you can wait until next year, not worth risking them in cold weather.
Guest j.bamling Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 you can't learn a pigeon where it lives it either knows or it doesn't !!! wait till the ybs are compleatly through the moult then start exercising them again on good days & make sure they get plenty training on good days only in march and april , don't put them straight into the first races as these are sometimes some of the worst races wait till there is a bit of a tail wind or easy day and put them in ( I have put them into 172 miles first ever race and they have came well ) but just remember they are still inexperianced !!!
grizzal Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 get the moult out the as all ready stated, and pick your days , starting about 5miles increaseing up to about 20miles
Guest strapper Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 this is wot i would do myself. when ur birds have been exercising around the loft for about 5-6weeks,then they should be ready for training. i would start them off where they can see their exercising area. say 3-4mls. do this for around 5-6 times b4 moving on to 7-8mls but only if they were coming back from the 1st training lib points ok. again plenty of toses from this point. then after they have learned to race back home from these short lib points then go to 10mls . again as many toses now b4 the real bad weather comes in. the birds now should know their line of flight on the home stretch. dont risk liberating them in dodgy weather as this will knock them backwards and u may lose a few. any sunny days now u should be training mid day should be warm enough. this is only because uve not raced them and believe me...latebreds untrained will nearly ALL go down in the 1st few races unless experience in training. if u have got one thats playing up ,remove it from the rest of the birds and leave it at home!...seriously. this bird will make or break wot ur trying to achieve. best of luck.
van Roberts Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 thanks to you all good pointers
PATTY BHOY Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 start training in spring,5 miles,10 miles and so on,you cant go wrong.
jimmy white Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 hello any info on training young birds through winter months dont think this would be wise,, better with rest ,baths and fresh air untill the moult is completed. if late breds,,, [and after their body moult] on good days :-/ a short 5 mile toss all around your area, if you felt like it ,would do no harm
stevebelbin Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Just leave them on open hole for a few hours a day, they will do their own search of the area, and they will be hard to lose when you do start to train them.
fletch Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 if you have time to let them mature leave them till next year and train with your young birds for next year they will be ok the year after with plenty of work
