In some cases that's true Chris.

I have bought some recent stock in and I now have to sell to make room for them. I have sold some in the last week, not because they are crap or unwanted, solely to being overstocked. I have plenty off them in the race team so it is easier to let them go.  I have just purchased a proven pair which as bred 29 first for the guy and others over the UK, so he must be the mad one.

I think most people don't have the space to retain good birds , if you have race birds that are to be retired to the stock loft after there racing days are over its a one in one out system , so its better to get rid of the older ones esspecialy if you have enough ybs or performing old birds from that bird , some are small back garden fanciers and have limited space , whilst others will have allotments with as much room as they want with no bird limits to how many they house.

and from what i have seen of birds for sale on this site i would be happy to have most of them sat in my loft if i had the room ;)

ive sold some brillant breeders this year ive also given a lot of good birds away u can only keep so many all my stock have bred winners so to replace them is a bit silly also i have no club racing now and it gets a bit hard to get motivated im even thinking of selling my no1 hen thats how bad it is when i sell a pigeon or give it away u no wat your getting i got nothing to hide if people want them they buy them if not they dont but if you just bought from entire clearence sales there would never be no stock birds in my eyes you have to look at the person ask yourself is he honest wat does he fly like whats hes birds like and so on yes you do have to be carefull i found that out myself

Chris you have seen my set up. In that loft I have to house old bird racers, Young bird team and stock birds. You cant keep them all buddy and I cant build more loft to keep them in. When the old bird season starts the widow hens have to go in with the stock pairs of that I have no choice, far from ideal but thats how it is at the moment. I have been toying with the idea of selling off all the stock and just keep racers to race and breed off. All of those stock birds have bred winners galore up to Federation level not only for me over the years they have been here but for others too. So looking from my perch it is possible to be forced into selling good pigeons as I have in the past and will in the future you just have to keep your fingers crossed it is the right thing to do and what you have kept will keep your blood strong

i have brought in a few birds this year [most if not all from guys of this site]all "good birds" no one has stuck a gun to my head,if they turn out good thats great,if they are rubbish, who do i blame the guy selling them or me for buying them?,and what would you class a good bird to be?

Would have to agree with a lot that has been said so far in this thread but -: why is there some fanceirs who year after year try to sell pigeons because they are overstocked.

Perhaps before these fanceirs sell pigeons on this site as been overstocked, they should try other ways of keeping there numbers down i.e

Racing them a little harder, breading less or having a cull once a month.

cheers

Gareth

I think the thread was started in response to the sheer number of 'birds for sale' threads on here the other night; the portal was more or less full of them.

Doesn't make for a very interesting read, reminded me of the (in)famous Blackpool issue of BHW a couple of years back that had nothing in it but adverts.  :) Led to a Blackpool Sales Supplement in response to complaints it generated.

I think you have to treat each sale on its merits, and make your own judgements.  There is no doubt that at this time of the year, people are having a clear out, and if someone is willing to pay good money there is always someone willing to take it from you.  For me, I would never sell anything that is not good enough for my own loft.

i was once told that when you are selecting [buying ]stock, rule number one is to remember that if you are buying a bird it has been "deselected" by the owner[seller]

Posted

You have to judge for yourself, people do have to cut back in stock teams, i have purchased some very good birds from stock reductions and i know i have also sold good birds after reducing my stock for example a de klak cock i sold on here had to reduce price many times however i have been informed that it has bred many winners and the buyer is very happy. i also sold my klaks a while back and the buyer was happy with them and bred winners straight away. now the buyer has offered me the klaks back due to lack of room i have happily taken them back.

so not all birds sold are crap and its not a weeding out process any which arent good enought to start with they dont event leave my stock lofts neither enter another loft.

This year i have had about 34 pairs of stock here to breed young stock now i have purchased new box;s and have decided i will only have 20 pairs therefore these have to be sorted and only the ones i think are good enought have been sold.

I actually took quite a bit off of the price he was after, so in one way i got what i wanted, but maybe he got what he wanted.  >:(

as long as your happy :) :)
