i take it you mean , grit and black minerals , when they are feeding youngsters they will eat a lot of this [and will need it] but when not feeding youngsters they will eat a little [but still need it]   i think its better to put just enough in the pots that they need ,and give it fresh    fresh each day ,, if these pots get damp and soiled , they can be a haven for worm and cocci oocysts [eggs]
