Documentary Photographer needs YOU!

Hello.

 

My name is Christopher Brazel and I am a final year mature student currently studying at the University of Westminster. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to be photographed or could help me get in touch with people who would allow me to photograph them and their pigeons for a documentary piece I am making. My neighbour Don from back home in Wallasey, near Liverpool, raced pigeons and had lofts in his yard until he had a stroke a few years back. I used to watch him tend to his birds when I was at a young age and this is partly where the interest came from. Growing up I used to see the flyers gather at the British Legion around the corner to give their racers to the one that would take them off and release them and I’d later watch Don enticing and collecting his birds back in from the rooftops once they had returned from races. I feel the tradition of keeping and racing pigeons or doves is a great subject to photograph and would make for some excellent pictures.

 

I am aware that the race season is over and hope that this means the birds will be at home with their owners and therefore available to be shot together (with a camera!) in their natural environments. I would like to photograph the owners and the birds together in a straightforward, documentary style and hope that some may wish to fly their birds for exercise, if this happens at this time of year. I assure you that my presence will be uncomplicated and not take up too much time and hope that some would like to participate. One visit to a loft would be plenty of time for me to capture the images, which I will take with black and white film, to then hand process. I will happily make prints for anyone that is interested and hope to have the images published in a book that I aim to produce and publish; that I would also be willing to give. I currently live in Willesden Green, North West London, but also have places to stay up and down the country. I am happy to travel anywhere in the country, so please consider all that may be interested.

OLDYELLOW, where are you based out of interest? your lofts look great! Wiley - cheers for the offer and i'll be in touch. I could travel to Scotland for the wealth of flyers they seem to have up there. staying in a hostel for the night would be a fun little adventure.

Chris has been a spent a couple of hours with me and my birds this morning, taking pics while they exercised fed etc.

 

Real geniune guy with a geniune interest in what we do, if we are to promote this sport we need to help people like Chris out, therefore if you can spare him some time at you lofts for his project you should do so.

Have to agree, chris is a good, guy, we have had two photo shoots here, and he has big aspirations for photographs he does with pigeons, and i for one hope everything works out well for him, he is a keen learner, and has a keen ear also for what you have to say as a fancier, and he has a genuine interest in the birds. I for one know that for those that help him he would really appreciate it!!
