wee red hens Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 we were wondering if when we go into our hut we always handle some of our birds is this ok our can you handle them too much? and why some dont mind and others to say the least just dont like it so it seems like we always handle the same ones which in turn creates some favourites
the pigeon_milker Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 i think it good to handle our birds as much as you can and the ones that dont like it will soon come around by offering some peanuts but dont give to many coz they would get to fat to move away and thats not the same as tame
Guest Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I handle mine regularly from the time they are weaned, I don't handle them in the nest though and I know many say that helps tame them. Mine aren't tame but I can take them off the perch without them flying at me (except for the odd bought in!!). I like my birds not to be afraid of me. I think the important thing is how you handle them. Personally I like to handle them like a lady with a loving touch, so they are happy :B :B :)
The Navigator Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I awlays pick something off the perch just to keep them calm and show that I am the boss.
wee red hens Posted November 13, 2008 Author Report Posted November 13, 2008 thats whats happening we are only handling the ones that dont seem to mind and the ones that try to fly past us we leave alone
b.massey Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Just handle as much as possibile. Try little treats too like peanuts or good seeds. I find they all start to begin to come round
OLDYELLOW Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 i find with the wilder ones if you spot them early enough , catch them and hold them for 5 minutes at a time they soon find you are not a threat and calm down
wee red hens Posted November 13, 2008 Author Report Posted November 13, 2008 ok will try these things with the wilder ones thanks
