jimmy_84 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 Hi guys i am enjoying my pigeons only got 4 and now have total control of them and routine. and if next year i were to want to race would it matter what strain of bird i had i thought it was down to individual and also the bird just like with dogs or any other pet you may own the best but may not breed the best from them
Ronnie Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 No strain dont mean anything mate. The only true way to find out if its any good at racing is to race it mate. Pedigree's are a good base to start from if youve nothing else but race results are more important. The basket is a great leveler.

I have one o' these and one o them and an odd stray. But tell you what not many can get 'em 600 mile better than me in our fed
jimmy_84 Posted May 25, 2008 Author Report Posted May 25, 2008 thanks guys was just wondering as i hear people on here asking for certain strains or selling certain grandchildren to these strain and i just wanted to know as i thnk if i was to buy anymore birds i couldn't afford these sort of prices and if i were to race there would or so it is led me to believe that this sport is all about strains and hundreds of birds i ive in small village with 1 other fancier who does no longer race and i dont have the room to build a huge loft to house hundreds of birds i have turned my old brick shed into a small loft with my 4 birds in and they fly home to it from a distace i asked for advice on here and what advice i got was excellent and has really helped me gain control of my birds but the strain thing was worrying me for next year if i want to race
Guest chrisss Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 strains are nothing and mean even less, just decide at what distance you want to race from and choose from within that group,go for what you can afford, and house,at least thats what i have been told by better people than me
j.childs Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 the strain don't mean anything....... its the bird that races not the strain. as long as the birds are healthy and happy i would'nt worry about it...just enjoy your flying...
jimmy white Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 i really think that the strain is not so important than the management ,i,e there are different ways to set pigeons up for races at different times and also at different distances , as ive said b4 sometimes a good look at all the back posts gives you a better insight into the pigeon racing , and off course , most members are willing to help
