I put mine on dark as soon as thay are weaned, day light hours are from 9 till 5, thay stay on darkness untill 6 weeks before first yb race, I dont train them untill thay are taken off darkness,

then light  for last four weeks so they dont moult how longer do you extend the light for kirky ?

If I pair up on or around boxing day as I have been advised to do, would I then need to put my ybs on darkness for them to be ok for racing, why are they not trained during the darkness period

I put lights on untill 9pm this is first year that i did it, it did work but thay are now taking longer to moult out some with 2 flights still to go.

I would still put them on dark if bred in dec or jan as if you dont when thay moult thay wont hold the filghts and come yb racing after 3 or 4 races thay will be on the last flights. the reason thay are not trained is one thay are moulting, two because you are changing there daylight hours the birds think its winter months and there homing ability would not be the same untill you take them off dark, also when taking off dark do it over one week  from  9/5 then 6789 increase day light by one hour over the week

mine are the same 2 to go some only 1 did wonder if thay would not moult out in time as it is the first time i have tried it in 10 years that i have done darkness.
