Demand makes prices, some fanciers could not give their birds away and others cannot breed enough for the demand. If a 100 fanciers all want one mans birds then he will sell to whom ever is offering him the most money. Pigeons are no different than race horses or grey hounds when it comes to buying and selling people will pay more for winning lines. Why would a fancier sell a bird for £100 if someone is willing to pay him £5000? Remember a bird is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

no and it shows in youer offer on site  but some want stupid price for rubbish they wont admit it or get no money me as stated maney times if bird is no good to you its no good to me unless i see something i can use it for ie spare cock hen showing or of use to someone else   noone gets rid of winners or breeders as thats what we are all looking for

I sold two  3 year cocks this year both nest mates to one of my club members. One has won 8 x 1st 3 of those 1st this year and the other 4 x 1st one of those 1st this year so people do sell winning birds. I have never advertised birds for sale but fanciers still come to me every year to buy young birds.

I hear people saying that fanciers only sell their rubbish and birds they no longer want, In my view that statement is rubbish as there are good birds sold every single day. Not everyone has a fat bank account and can refuse money someone is offering them for their birds so they sell.

i remember selling two 2008 youngbirds this year , the sire was same way bred as a national winner this year!

the sire i have is out of turbo filmstar..these youngsters were both sold on here..one i donated to the phoebe auction and the other was sold to a memeber off here......i didnt need the money but niether did i need the birds.

everyone has a view but not everyone will be right...thats whats so good about different views.

i could as youer post says offer you money and you may sell but do you sell cos you like money or cos you have to

I sell because people want my birds. If I was in it for the money I would have 100 stock pair not 10.

I agree with what you say on the first part Chris  But if you got 100 pairs of birds nobody breeds all good birds out of them if it was that easy all you would have to do is breed best to the best and everything would come out like them i dont think so  ;D

Conversly Rose most people who only have 10 pair in the stock loft don't know what they are going to breed and don't breed many good uns, so you've has much chance of having a good un from them as them keeping it.

I doubt there is no one on this post that has not sold a bird. Rose when you or John have sold birds are they the same price now as they were before you became successful, I doubt it. Or maybe you didn't sell any until you were successful. The price went up because of your success and that included from birds that were brothers and sisters, cousins and aunties regardless of performance. The price is set by the age old principal of supply and demand. It is a principal that our society is based on. Why should those that sell pigeons not do the same. The guy who wins a psuedo national and has a couple of good birds is not going to turn down the hundreds of fanciers who want anything from anything he's got, he's not made any promises, people are banging his door down.

The buyer sets the price not the seller.

the buyer sets price not seller um i will phone breeder and offer him price he will tell me to swivel

Yes Chris but he doesn't want to sell. If someone offers what he wants its the seller that makes the price. There have been several birds on here where the seller has had to reduce and reduce until a buyer says OK that's the right price. The same wiith boom times, gazumpking is created by the buyer not the seller

We never been into selling birds and have never had an auction and we have won a few races you might find some put up for auctions if people got our birds you will find most are gift birds and if birds we have let go if they not good enough to stay in our loft they are not good enough to go to anyone else

Sorry Rose are you saying you've never sold any birds?

I think your missing the point the point I am making is that not everyone that sells birds is in it for the money. They sell because they have spent time and money over the years building up a family of birds other fanciers want. In my loft if a bird is no good I put it in the bin I would never give it away. The ones that buy and sell birds to make money are just like anyone else that buys and sells to make a living if the market is there then why not make money from it? Going to all the top lofts buying their birds at a good price and selling them for a profit to the people who do not have the time to go looking. I for one would love a job like that.
